The Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Turkish: Sultanahmet Camii) is an historical mosque in Istanbul. The mosque is popularly known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior.

It was built from 1609 to 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I. Like many other mosques, it also comprises a tomb of the founder, a madrasah and a hospice. While still used as a mosque, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque has also become a popular tourist attraction.

The architect of this mosque is Sedefkar Mehmed Agha or Sedefqar Mehmeti of Elbasan (Modern Turkish: Sedefkâr Mehmet Ağa, about 1540 - 1617) , pupil of the famous architect Mimar Sinan.

As part of our trip to Istanbul, we stayed for several days at the Hagia Sofia Mansions (Curio Collection by Hilton), one long section of which backs on to the outer wall of Topkapi Palace, immediately behind Hagia Sofia.

On the first evening, I walked the short distance past Hagia Sofia to the Blue Mosque by myself to experience the exterior of this great mosque at twilight. It felt so good to be out and about in such a place on my own at nightfall

I'm just back from almost three weeks touring around South East Asia. First country on my travels was Malaysia, so I decided to post one of these shots first.

I was mainly staying in Kuala Lumpur, but myself and my good friend and photographer Danny Xeero took a day trip down to Malacca / Melaka to catch the sunset.

I got some standard shots of this, the Malacca Straits Mosque, then I decided I would experiment with my 10-stop ND filter. I've used this a bit in the past, but I've really like the results, so I wanted to try some colour sunset shots with it. I was standing right by this rock and figured it would make some pretty good foreground interest.

This shot is a manually blended image from about 4 exposures. It's mostly one, with others blended in for the water and the bright part of the sky. A final, non-ND shot was used to clean up some noise on the mosque itself.

Last night, I had the privilege of joining a Google Hangout with Jimmy McIntyre and HDR One Magazine. As I talked about my HDR workflow, it prompted me to finally get around to writing a tutorial. I'll spend the next week or so working on it and hopefully release it around christmas time.

A perspective work from Haliç/ Golden Horn Metro Station Bridge. They look so diffrent despite they are both mosques, Hagia Sophia is like the oldest sister of the family who is adopted at first so she can't really fit in other siblings but all the other siblings adore her but she doesn't like them back. New Mosque is like the middle child to me. It is the first mosque when you enter the historic peninsula yet many people ignore it and move on to see "real" place. It is sad. It's like he is jelous of all the fame and attention Hagia Sophia gets. He prepares revenge plans yet no one cares.

The Essalam mosque is a large mosque in the Rotterdam neighborhood Feijenoord, near the football stadium De Kuip. The house of worship is the largest mosque in the Netherlands. Due to its size, the mosque strongly defines the face of the district. The dome is 25 meters high and the minarets are 50 meters high.
