The archaelogical site at Italica, Spain is such a fascinating place to visit! This detail of a mosaic floor found in the excavation of an elite Roman villa is a marvel. It is part of a larger floor featuring many different birds that has lasted through the ages to delight us today.

"All art is but imitation of nature."

-- Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Part of a sculpture with ceramic tiles with the title 'Dona i Ocell' (Woman and bird) van Joan Miró in Barcelona. I really love this color as it resembles lapis lazuli.

Fun fact: In my photo it looks like a convex form, but in case it is a hollow form.

From the bottom of the escalator looking back it's a lot easier to see how the blue mosaic lined skylight brings an eerie natural light down to the lowest level of the metro station.

Mosaics created by Isaiah Zagar adorn the Magic Garden and buildings surrounding it.

Have a lovely Saturday!

I forgot to load a closeup of the tape dispenser I made for my sister for her library. Seeing Floy's recent one reminded me I should post a closeup of hers.

this rooster is steppin' proud I think...very stylized. Thank you redhatgal for the invite. I didn't think Kern County Photographers would be interested in mosaic work so much, I do A LOT of it and would totally flood the group I think :)

This is the second skull I'm making for the Driscoll Hospital Fiesta de los Ninos fundraiser. I finished gluing the tess last night, and will be grouting in gray.

The horns were so pretty, and I tried to use tile colors that reflected the colors in the horns.

Niki de Saint Phalle's Buddha (2000) is a vibrant sculpture located at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Standing over three meters tall, it depicts a seated figure adorned with brightly coloured mosaic tiles, a technique inspired by Antoni GaudÃ-. This work exemplifies Saint Phalle's signature style, merging art and functionality, as the sculpture includes a seat at the back, blurring the line between artwork and usable object.

Saint Phalle began creating figurative works in the mid-1960s, notably her iconic "Nana" figures, which celebrated the female form and paralleled modern feminist efforts to reconsider and revalue the female body. Her use of mosaic surfaces was inspired by GaudÃ-'s technique of applying broken ceramic tiles, as seen in Buddha.

picked up these shards at the old bottle dump in Tombstone, AZ, some came from Tepco's old dump site in Richmond, right on the shores of the San Francisco Bay

13.5" x 20"

I wasn't happy with the blue grout edging and realized I should have brought it in closer to the center. I think it looks much better now.

This is about 6 1/2" square, wall hanging. Stained glass and mille for the eye.

Going to work on more birds because it is just fun and makes me happy. lol

Murano millefiori, stained glass; 17" x 24"

I had neglected to cut back my hydrangeas the fall before this past summer, so they were huge. We had some wonderful, hard rain, and the hydrangeas just fell over like peonies. Most of the surrounding garden was many shades of green, save for one small patch of pink coneflowers which were leaning lazily against a small piece of fence. I saw the hydrangeas in millefiori immediately, and so "After the Rain".

I used colored tile given to me by a very nice man to continue the pattern on the central tile.

Because the simple things in life are

all we really need to be happy.

Two grouts and then I "stained" the tree and other

parts because the grout was too light.

I just took a bit of brown grout mixed loose with water

and brown colorant and painted it on. seemed to work fine.

The dress, shoes and red maple tree are all grouted with

Nutmeg grout colored with red. When I cleaned the

millefiori pieces I scooped out a lot of grout around them.

Especially in the folds of the dress.
