Moon that appears more than half lighted but less than full is called a gibbous moon.

Day 11. Got it! Just thought I'd check the sky before I went to bed and the moon was back out from behind the clouds. Waited until midnight and managed to bag my moon shot for day 11.

Tonight's 'Supermoon' (29/08/2015) is the first of three spectacular lunar shows this year

That means the moon is very full and bright in the sky, because it has come very close to earth.

Tonight's full moon is just 222,631 miles from earth - one of the closest approaches of the year.

Waning gibbous with 97% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated.

On the late evening of 23th of February 2016, the skies got clear. And there it was, clear as day: the moon with a bright white light on its left. After a bit of research it turned out to be Jupiter.

Zooming in a bit, even it's moons were visible!

Moon, early this morning

I used my new telescope, Its a 6" RC Astrograph that I bought from Orion Telescopes

The strawberry coloured moon over Torrevieja Valencia Spain.

People often ask me how I manage to find their photos so soon after they've uploaded them. There's a little-known section of Flickr's recent uploads area that actually sorts photos by time posted and not by popularity. I don't know why they've chosen to hide this so well, because it makes it hard for people to get found on here. And there are some AMAZING photographers here that really, really deserve more recognition. So I want you guys to follow this link, use it to search for other topics as well, and help each other get more views. :)

I tried a redux of the Moon tonight, since it wasn't hazy. It is a slight bit better, but I think I can still do better. The moon was lower, so perhaps better to wait until it's high in the sky so the light is traveling through less atmosphere. Also, a quarter moon or so makes for a more dramatic terminator, when the craters and peaks are highlighted by the sun edge-on.
