Instructions now on Rebrickable!

It has been exactly a year and one day since my last Lego post, so coming back into it with a tribute to one of my favorite pieces of musical gear.

The Moog Sub Phatty is a monophonic (1-voice) analog synthesizer capable of some pretty fat, sub sounds. Has a 25-key keyboard and 31 knobs for shaping the overall sound. The big knob in the model controls the low-pass filter, which gives most Moog synthesizers their famous signature sound.

Name: Moog Sub Phatty

Pieces: 703 (synthesizer assembly only)

In 2001 I went to a book signing / recital in Costa Mesa, California. The book was Theremin: Ether Music and Espionage by Albert Glinsky. My friend Charlie Lester performed a few numbers on his left-handed Moog Music Ethervox.

There were a number of other enthusiasts there, including one who brought in an exceedingly rare instrument, this original RCA theremins from the 1930's. I don't remember the exact number that were made, but it was in the low-mid hundreds.

(I don't remember why the crop is so lousy, I can only assume somebody was standing right to the left of it.)
