Washington and Jefferson monuments

The Washington Monument in Washington DC.

We felt so lucky to see this beautiful high desert after a rain ~ the clouds hung on the monuments and the air was crisp and clear.

Had my Nikon D700 with me, but the IPhone image somehow turned out better!

Classic shot at Monument Valley taken in Sept 2020. Slight haze related to the California wildfires going on at the time.

While in Washington D.C. last week my primary interest was shooting street shots but I could not resist a few typical tourist shots too.

I'm revisiting the photos I took in southern Utah, northern Arizona, and northern New Mexico in 2009, reprocessing some, adding a few, and deleting others.

Detail of a Monument

Winterberg is an important winter sports area in Western Germany. This ski jump monument is located at the town entrance.

On a frigid January day on the National Mall.

This is taken from the Lincoln Memorial. I was there at 9:00 PM at night and there were still thousands of people around. Getting a clear shot with all of the reflection was impossible. The fence was temporary for the July 4th celebration. It was lovely to see so many of the monuments and memorials in DC.

Colorado National Monument was a special surprise that surpassed my expectations that I had going in. Full of unique rock formations, deep canyons, and colorful redrock this park is a much smaller and quieter alternative to places like Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon. On this particular morning I had to practice a bit of patience in the cold waiting for the sun to rise and hit a hole in the clouds allowing it to illuminate the rocky landscape. It was a special morning to be out doing photography and even more sweet time to be with my Savior.

another shot in the harsher light.

I noticed after I posted that I should have cropped a little off the left, maybe later.

Largs' most famous monument is The Pencil, situated at the south end of the Prom, near to Largs Marina. The Pencil was built in 1912, to commemorate the Battle of Largs 1263, when the Scots defeated King Haco of Norway's troops on the shore at Largs, after the 160 long ships got caught in a storm.

The monument, in the Knockmealdown Mountains of Tipperary, marks the spot where Liam Lynch, Chief of staff of The Irish Republican Army was shot by Free State Troops on 10th April 1922. Read more here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liam_Lynch_(Irish_republican)

We spent Thanksgiving Day driving through Monument Valley.

I've been wanting to visit Monument Valley since my first trip to the States in 1997, so I was happy that we were able to plan it into this trip. A truly beautiful place to visit. 21/09/2019.
