These colorful invertebrate animals live along the California Coast and have tentacles that fluoresce, absorbing ultraviolet light and shining it back as visible light. This HDR shot uses 3 bracketed images and was taken at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Copyright: Ken Sweezey/Sweezey Pictures

This is one of my favorite exhibits at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The lighting inside the tank really brings out the details in the jellyfish. I was on a field trip with my class and I had a chance to take pictures with my d500 in low light conditions. I was impressed with the results.

A few more from my Moss Landing whale watching trip where we witnessed hundreds of breaches by a young whale. This youngster is the calf of CRC-12529 and called Google by some for the white patches around the eye.

Not sure if it is for the attention and screams of the whale watchers or just because he has too much energy, this juvenile whale leapt into the air numerous times during the approximate one hour we watched him.

Happy Friday!

Here is a shot from my Bday session a while back. :) Was a good start to the day!

From a recent session with some of my favorite conditions.

Thor & Poseidon showing off last night/this morning. Lightning & Bioluminescence playing together. What a night!

When the whale got too close for my lens, I resorted to my iPhone for some video.

Monterey Bay is a bay of the Pacific Ocean located on the coast of the U.S. state of California. The bay is south of the major cities of San Francisco and San Jose. Santa Cruz is located at the north end of the bay, and Monterey is on the Monterey Peninsula at the south end.

Mama & Baby Sea Otters All alone In The Big Blue

This Mama was teaching her baby how to dive (they don’t instinctively know how to do this) for crabs and other local sea foods. The mother has to teach them. The baby was very afraid and making little crying and complaining sounds.

This was taken from last year when we paid a visit to the Monterey Bay Peninsula. These strawberries are quite big. I am not sure if they are GMO fruits.

Monterey Bay, CA

This is a merge of 15 shots made in Monterey, CA

This juvenile humpback whale has recently been entertaining the whale watchers in Monterey Bay. He has been given the name Google for the white eye patches surrounding his eyes.

Nature's power is always at work and a great place to watch tidal forces is near Lighthouse Point in Monterey Bay. This swell is just a normal day but occurs where the sea begins to flow into the bay a rocky point. On storm days collisions like this can be three times bigger and surf watchers like me have to stand far back or the ocean will grab you and send you to Davey Jones Locker. These tidal forces shape and sculpt the coast, cause natural cliff collapses and mariners beware to sail with caution especially on foggy days. A wild and wonderful place to see. On calm days scuba divers enter and kayaks bob about as the sea otters float in the sea weed kelp forest. A salt water sanctuary of marine life biodiversity.

A local celebrity, 9 year old albino (or leucistic) Risso dolphin Casper returned to Monterey Bay this week in time for Halloween.

Thought this looked like a crocodile/alligator/dragon, tail on the left, then follow the coil to the head. It is even guarding it's treasure ;P
