This monstrous and rather rusty railway wagon is called a "Torpedo". This is one of those at the Richmond Vale Railway Museum in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. It is very appropriate that it should be here as the giant Newcastle steelworks of the Broken Hill Proprietary Company (BHP) we're not far down the road within suburban Newcastle. At least they were until the whole lot which formed so much of our primary school social studies and really, national pride closed down in. Torpedos were used to transport molten steel around the steelworks. You can see they have four sets of bogies because of their great weight and are set up, check the mechanisms on the outer ends to turn and tip the steel out into such things as i got moulds. The heat must have been overwhelming. I can't say for sure as I have never been inside a steelworks (given the safety and security issues, not a place easily visited and understandable) but I am pretty sure these type of wagons are still employed at our remaining steelworks in Port Kembla (NSW) and Whyalla (SA).

Monstrously high waves pound Queens Bath set against the sun setting over Bali Hai.

I left my GoPro in the most precarious place. You can be swept away by rogue waves, that reach their peak in January. Sea nymphs frolic in the August sun. But not now when it is officially "closed."

What power and beauty .. and danger.

A monstrous nightbird, superficially similar to an owl but not related. Pale mottled gray with large head; larger than other potoos and lacks a dark mustache stripe. Well camouflaged and difficult to spot; most often seen roosting on a horizontal limb during the day (less often on a broken off snag like other potoos). Found in forested areas and edges. Active at night, when it feeds on large insects. Listen for its terrifying call, a harsh descending scream. (ebird)

A view looking to the northwest across the canyon and gorge with blue skies above at the Rock Point overlook in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. I felt angling my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward would create more of that sweeping look across the canyon with the spires and fissures present. It would also help to minimize what I felt was the more negative space with the blue skies above and have more of the focus with the national park setting to my front.

London Southbank has loads of examples of monstrous concrete buildings but I feel they won't be protected and will be redeveloped very soon.

Monstrous bulldozers were shifting sand in one of my favourite haunts, a sandpit, at the harbour, near the sea, a dangerous and forbidden place, but the guys knew me and that I was careful!

The sun was going down, it was the perfect moment for such a mundane subject.

This was taken about 500 meters away from Kinney Lake. Poking its head through the trees to the left of the image is the monstrous Mount Robson (Tallest Peak in the Canadian Rockies).

Grog’s bulging veins throbbed beneath his thick skin, a pulsating echo of his heart pounding in his chest. His eyes were clouded, his pupils dilated with feverish excitement.

The Crypt of Kings, a legend whispered around campfires, and its elusive treasure had haunted him night and day for decades. He had scoured the darkest depths, faced the most monstrous creatures, all for this day. His trembling hands gripped his weapon a little tighter at the sight of the massive doors finally standing before him.

A rosy glow filtered through the crack, a promise of unimaginable wealth. The solitary orc, teetering on the edge of insanity, was about to cross the threshold, driven by an insatiable thirst for gold and glory.

Nature at its freakiest best?

Most unusual, these bi-coloured Rococo Parrot Tulips, flowers with twisted, irregularly fringed petals.

Even their leaves are wild and 'Baroque'.

They are weird, even a little 'alien'?

Are they ‘monstrous beauty or beautiful monster’

These white and green are the most exotic of the lot though!

Love them or hate them, Parrot Tulips are Spring's grand (bulb) showcase, big and beautiful, they have flamboyant flowers with streaks, ruffles and frayed edges.

Have a glorious day and thank you, M, (*_*)

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be at Disneyland for the Monstrous Summer 24 Hour event. Crowds weren't nearly as bad as I had anticipated, and I had a really great time. One of my fonder memories of the experience was spending it with my dear friends Mary, Kate, and Sabrina (not pictured). Kate, Mary, and I decided to ride the Astro Orbitor at about 5 AM, just because we could. And I was snapping away the entire time.

Dan and several companions were traveling in Nocturnus, hunting down a evil mage known for necromancy and other vile arts. Upon entering his fortress they quickly found him, but not before he opened a portal and summoned Skinless, an ancient dragon resurrected once more! Big waves and blustery winds over south breakwater, Aberdeen on 21 November 2018

Like a monstrous Balrog (Lord of the Rings reference) looming and threatening everything in it's path.

At this moment, neighborhoods a short distance south of us were being evacuated, as we were scrambling around making our own preparations, in case we got the word to do so also.

Thankfully the camera needed no assistance taking this series of several hundred photos, at six seconds intervals.

By Belgian artist Nick Ervinck (Roeselare 1981) - 2012

A permanent, public sculpture on display on the beach in Westende-Bad, as part of the Beaufort Sculpture Park.

It is an abstract, hybrid form, inspired by macro photographs of splashing seawater and the natural dynamics of waves crashing against the breakwaters. Some describe it as “monstrous”.

Although it was designed digitally, it was crafted by hand from polyester and steel, making it physically tangible.

The name “olnetop” itself is not a real word, but a title given to the work by the artist.

A goblin is a grotesque, monstrous creature that appears in the folklore of multiple European cultures; usually mischievous and sometimes evil and malicious.

According to the famous English folklorist, Katharine Mary Briggs (1898-1980), goblins are evil and ill-intentioned spirits. Ugly in appearance, they are embedded in the rich folklore of the United Kingdom, in particular.

Like all members of the very broad category of “fey”, or the beings of the preternatural world, including fairies, elves, and pixies, goblins are renowned for being tricksy. They are best avoided.

Back in 2020 my doctor suggested that I could be pre-diabetic and suggested I lost a lot of weight (40Kg about 90 pounds), So I "set to" and drastically reduced my calorie intake.

After losing about 70 pounds (just under 2 years) I went back to see the doctor (November 2021) - all was well blood sugar OK kidney and liver function OK - but look at the effect it had on my appearance!

I have put some of the weight back on (and in my opinion I look better) and the my health still seems OK.

Anthem for Doomed Youth

By Wilfred Owen

What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?

— Only the monstrous anger of the guns.

Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle

Can patter out their hasty orisons.

No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells;

Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,—

The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;

And bugles calling for them from sad shires.

What candles may be held to speed them all?

Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes

Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes.

The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;

Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,

And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.

Composed in 1917, Owen was killed in action on 4 November 1918 exactly one week (almost to the hour) before the signing of the Armistice which ended the war

The comparison of my old dragon built back in 2010, from the film "How to Train your Dragon".

'Olnetop' by Nick Ervinck has something monstrous. Although you can recognize different elements in the hybrid form, the installation mainly refers to splashing waves. The Belgian artist is inspired by the natural dynamics of seawater that crashes into the breakwaters with a constant force. With his work he tries to capture the sublime violence that hides behind a serene surface. Based on a macro photographic image, Olnetop is an encounter between nature and technology. Ervinck calls it a virtual sculpture, the result of a 100% digital design, which is not carved out of stone nor cut out of wood, but still tangible thanks to the polyester version.
