As of February 2017, I have 136 Monster High dolls in my collection. I began collecting them in March of 2013, and since then, they have become my second favorite dolls to collect (after Bratz and American Girl). These dolls hold so many memories, which is why this video is so very long. I really hope you enjoy this video, and a glimpse into my Monster High collection. I worked really hard to put this video together--it took over eight hours to film, edit, upload, etc (thanks to my internet crashing when it was 91% uploaded)!

It's finally here, my updated 2019 Monster High collection video! I wanted to wait until I had a significant number of new dolls to include before filming this--currently I have 186 dolls in my collection! This video was a two day, many hour project (just for filming) due to the volume of dollies. I hope you don't mind the length of the video and that you enjoy meeting all my plastic friends.

I'm so glad I took this picture well before I had my Flickr account. I had planned to create "A Thousand Splendid Dolls" during the spring of 2014. So whenever I did a cool project or an interesting makeover, I made sure to document it. Granted, my photography skills were quite awful then (not that they are fabulous now, but I have improved somewhat). It's so cool seeing how I used to display my Monster High dolls and Mary-Kate and Ashley dolls. I had other ways of displaying them prior to purchasing this unit. My Monster High dolls lived in plastic stackable cubes from Target, and Mary-Kate and Ashley resided on the shelves that now are in the living room (for movies). The reason I ended up putting away my Monster High dolls is because my collection was getting to be patently too large to display. The dolls also required stands, and given their smaller frame that meant I had to make many more per shelf (than say Disney dolls). It was no longer practical. Plus, colorful ABS plastic is way more likely to discolor, so they were safer in storage (no worries, they come out ALL the time). They were the only dolls that I thought looked cool against the original black color of the shelves, since it fit their creepy theme. But since I like decor to be lighter, airier, and inviting, I couldn't bare the thought of keeping these shelves black. Mary-Kate and Ashley were some of the first dolls I had out in my room (along with Disney), and my collection was also outgrowing it's space. That's why they ended up getting packed away too. If I had the room though, I'd totally put them back out because my collection has so many new, awesome faces!
The only dolls I enjoyed displaying on my shelves when they were black were my Monster Highs. Why? Well, the black looked so creepy with them! Their vibrant colors popped against the dark background, as did the decorations I put on the back and sides of the shelves. I snapped this photo back in 2014 for no other reason than I wanted to remember how cool they looked. I also knew that eventually I'd have to pack up my Monster High dolls because my collection was getting way too large to house them all on display. It was also better for the ones with colorful ABS plastic to not be out. Blue and pink skin seems to discolor easiest, even if the dolls don't have much UV exposure (just ask my Bratzillaz Vampelina, who got to stay out on display). This little area featured some of my most prized dolls in my collection. They are the OGs of my collection, and to this day I feel excited every time I see their friendly faces in storage. My Monster High family wouldn't feel the same without these special ladies.
This was how my display looked in 2014, after I painted the shelves from black to white. It was quite the process...I messed up the first time. However, it was a great learning experience, and it made these cheap Wal-Mart shelves a really unique doll display. I ended up using contact paper on both my shelves to further decorate them. The Hello Kitty paper was the only contact paper I liked that was at Walmart (besides the green stuff I got for the other room). But it was WAY too pink...I was never happy with it. That's why I changed it out in 2021. But it had a good run for seven years, even though I sloppily applied it back in 2014.
You can see this was back when all my Monster High dolls and some of my Mary-Kate and Ashley dolls were on display. Nowadays, they are all in storage while Moxie, Disney, and Bratzillaz cover the shelves. It wasn't all that long after taking this photo that I rearranged these shelves to accomodate my growing Bratzillaz collection and overflow Disney dolls. My Moxie Girlz also moved down to the middle shelf, rather than the top one. I would have loved keeping all four shelves of my Moxies together (well, there are four on the two twin units now), but they are the only dolls short enough to fit on the second shelf from the top. Bratz could fit here too, but I already have specially made shelves just for them.
These are my personal dolls.
