*The word derives from the Latin word monolithus from the Greek word μονόλιθος (monolithos), derived from μόνος ("one" or "single") and λίθος ("stone").

Neolithic—this is possibly the oldest Henge monument in the British Isles, dating back to at least 3100 BC.

Perfect place for a well-deserved rest in unparalleled setting, the Pieralongia monolith looks really huge from here. In reality, the gigantic peaks of Seceda behind and above it make it look quite tiny from a different point of view such as the previous image. Hope you like it

The Monoliths are black, extremely flat, non-reflective.

Rectangular, the dimensions of the monoliths are in the precise ratio of 1 : 4 : 9 (the squares of the first three positive integers). These dimensions are the main source of debate about the simple external design of the Monoliths. It is suggested that this number series does not stop at three dimensions and indeed extends into time and quantum dimensions .

While it is unclear what the composition of the Monoliths is, they clearly have mass, which is about the only observation that can be made

A four minute exposure for this image of Selwicks Bay at Flamborough Head.

The Quiraing, Isle of Skye, Scotland.

The photo shows a 120 foot high rock pinnacle high up on the Trotternish ridge. This area, known as the Quiraing, consists of high cliffs, hidden plateaus and pinnacles of rock that were formed by massive landslipping events.

On the road leading up to this monolithic formation there are two dots. The one on the left is my husband in the jeep. How's that for scale?

As I already mentioned in my last upload, the sunset at our one and only evening at the Seceda was not super spectacular and we didn't see the famous red glow of the Dolomites, but there was some fog appearing out of nowhere which caught the last light of the low standing sun. This moment didn't last very long, but I was fast enough to put on my tele lens and capture this one image. Hope you like it!

Embedded in the floor of the temple was the largest, 20 tons, 7,3m high anthropomorphic piece, known as the Pachamama monolith or Benett monolith in honour of the American archaeologist who described it, then was moved to the city of La Paz to fix it in the square next to the Hernando Siles stadium. At present, it has returned to be installed in a specially built museum.
