The Lepavina Monastery is a Serb Orthodox monastery dedicated to the Presentation of Mary and located in Croatia. Established in 1550.

The monastery was founded by the Assyrian monk Joseph (Yoseb, Amba) Alaverdeli, who came from Antioch and settled in Alaverdi, then a small village and former pagan religious center dedicated to the Moon. At a height of over 55 meters, Alaverdi Cathedral is the second tallest religious building in Georgia, after Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi, which was consecrated in 2004.

The monastery dates back to the 6th century, the present day cathedral was built in the 11th century by Kvirike III of Kakheti, replacing an older church of St. George.

Humor Monastery located in Mănăstirea Humorului, about 5 km north of the town of Gura Humorului, Romania. It is a monastery for nuns dedicated to the Dormition of Virgin Mary, or Theotokos. It was constructed in 1530 by Voievod Petru Rareş and his chancellor Teodor Bubuiog. The monastery was built over the foundation of a previous monastery that dated from around 1415. The Humor monastery was closed in 1786 and was not reopened until 1990.

Humor was one of the first of Moldavia's painted monasteries to be frescoed and, along with Voroneţ, is probably the best preserved. The dominant colour of the frescoes is a reddish brown. The master painter responsible for Humor's frescoes, which were painted in 1535, is one Toma of Suceava.

The church has been inscribed by UNESCO on its list of World Heritage Sites, as one of the Painted churches of Moldavia.

I go to the Franciscan Monastery in Northeast DC year round; it's always a serene and beautiful place. While rich fall foliage dominates the landscape this time of year in DC, rose bushes make a comeback every autumn and put on a few blooms. I don't think there are any prettier than those at the monastery.

This is the garden of the Văratec Monastery, Romania. “The monastery was founded in 1785 by Schema nun Olimpiada, with her confessor, Father Iosif. In this work, mother Olimpiada was guided by Father Paisius Velichkovsky, hegumen of Neamț Monastery. The monastery was set under the guidance of Agapia Monastery, which was close by, and afterwards the Monastery became an independent monastery in 1839.

“Massive stone walls enclose the main church, ‘The Dormition of the Virgin Mary,’ [originally a wooden church] the abbot's building and the administrative buildings (on the northern side of the enclosure) and the monastery's Museum, where the ‘Queen Mary’ workshop used to be (in the building on the south side). The monastic precinct is surrounded by the monastery village, made up of rural traditional houses, where the nuns live, and which lie along narrow alleys.” (Wikipedia)

The “Assumption” monastery is the second largest monastery in Bulgaria. It is situated in the western part of Rodope Mountain, 10 km away from Asenovgrad. It was founded by Grigoriy Bukuriani – Georgian military commander who was at the service of the Byzantine Emperor. After the Ottomans conquered Bulgaria at the end of 14 century, the heroic patriarch St. Evtimiy Tarnovski was sent into exile in the monastery where he stayed until the end of his life. At first the monastery survived ottoman attacks but later it was burned down and plundered. During the 15th century it was renovated. The main monastery church was built in 1604. The wall paintings in the refectory date back from 1643. There are stages of “the Doomsday”, figures of holy monks, stages from the Orthodox Church history, and many other mural paintings. The icon of Virgin Mary is said to be miraculous. 103 manuscripts and 252 old printed books were found in the monastery in the beginning of 20 century and were called “a real literature depository”.

My tripod was set up and the lights at the right side were off. 1 second before i released my cable trigger the lights went on. What a luck ! :-) The color temperature was very greenish but a frew moments later it was equal warm as the light on the left side. That´s better than to correct this later ! :-)

One of the three large islands that John and I contributed to the Isles of Aura display at Brickworld. I’ve been wanting to build a monastery for a while, and this was a great opportunity to do so and to use dark orange 1×1 round bricks that we had gotten from LUGbulk last year. I also used plenty of tan 1×1 quarter circle tiles in the courtyard.

Olureon Monastery is well known for its beautiful terra-cotta roofs and carefully kept gardens. Both the Vermillion and Cerulean kingdoms respect the monastery’s non-violent approach to life, making it a safe haven even in times of strife.

Monastery in the Iven valley, Selenge province, Mongolia.

Noravank (Armenian: Նորավանք, literally "new monastery") is a 13th-century Armenian monastery, located 122 km from Yerevan in a narrow gorge made by the Amaghu River, near the city of Yeghegnadzor, Armenia. The gorge is known for its tall, sheer, brick-red cliffs, directly across from the monastery. The monastery is best known for its two-storey Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) church, which grants access to the second floor by way of a narrow stone-made staircase jutting out from the face of building.

The monastery is sometimes called Noravank at Amaghu, with Amaghu being the name of a small and nowadays abandoned village above the canyon, in order to distinguish it from Bgheno-Noravank, near Goris. In the 13th–14th centuries the monastery became a residence of Syunik's bishops and, consequently. a major religious and, later, cultural center of Armenia closely connected with many of the local seats of learning, especially with Gladzor's famed university and library.

Hosios Loukas is an historic walled monastery situated near the town of Distomo, in Boeotia, Greece. It is one of the most important monuments of Middle Byzantine architecture and art, and has been listed on UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. The monastery of Hosios Loukas is situated at a scenic site on the slopes of Mount Helicon. It was founded in the early 10th century by the hermit, Venerable St. Luke, whose relics are kept in the monastery to this day. The hermit (not the Evangelist of the Gospel of Saint Luke, but a hermit who died on 7 February 953) was famous for having predicted the conquest of Crete by Emperor Romanos. The main shrine of the monastery is the tomb of St. Luke, originally situated in the vault, but later placed at the juncture of the two churches.

Hosios Loukas is the largest of three monasteries surviving from the Middle Byzantine period in Greece. The Katholikon contains the best preserved complex of mosaics from the period of the Macedonian Renaissance.

Tintern Abbey (Abaty Tyndyrn), Tintern, Monmouthshire, Wales, UK.

The temple was built of natural stone, brought from Mount Athos, and lit in 1895. A distinctive feature of the monastery are eleven bells, which were cast in the city of Voronezh. All the bells vary in size, the smallest of them weighs five pounds, and the largest - more than a ton. The temple is built in the traditional Byzantine style, with a system of four domes, the largest of which is located in the middle.

Our Lady of Al-Natour monastery

Is standing on the Cape of Al-Natour, was built by the Crusaders on Byzantine ruins. The monastery is surrounded by large fields of the myrtle (Myrtus Ugni), a nearly extinct plant on the Lebanese coast.

In the last few years, the monastery church and rooms have been renovated, and icons of saints are painted on the church walls.

I found on the internet that this is monastery is 900 years old.
