The hovercraft "Moebius" is named after the french artist I drew my inspiration from for this and other works.
It crashlanded somewhere in the Arctic but luckily the pilot is not alone and well equipped to handle the situation.
The arctic setting is actually just an excuse for the snowflakes, I did not want do scrub them off.
MOEBIUS TRIBUTE
Ho visitato la bellissima mostra dedicata a Moebius presso il Paff! di Pordenone, ho visto questa riproduzione in 3D di uno dei suoi fantastici personaggi, non ho potuto fare a meno di lavorarci un po' su alla mia maniera.
I visited the beautiful exhibition dedicated to Moebius at the Paff! from Pordenone(Italy), I saw this 3D reproduction of one of his fantastic characters, I couldn't help but work on it a bit in my own way.
It's been a while since these two got so close, but the morning sun was just too tempting. Hence, a momentary detente was reached in the service of some solar recharging. That's Moebius on the left, and his sister, Roedelius, to the right.

I bought this Moebius 2001: A Space Odyssey EVA pod kit the moment it was released last year to make sure I got one, preferably an early stamp, no less. I love 2001, you see, and I really wanted to have this. I planned to build it ”some day”, put the box in a cupboard to wait for the less busy days, but this july the temptation got the best of me and I opened it.
To make a long story short, I had some issues with the colour temperatures of those four big headlights. The leds I used were from a local shop and I didn’t check them properly. After installing them I noticed two of them shifted a little to magenta. Usually any difference in the colour temperature shows quite prominently on digital camera sensor and I was a little frustrated with this prospect.
I could have tested how my camera sees the now installed leds by photographing them shining through a sheet of white diffusing paper. The diffusion brings out the colours better than direct light. But, you know, that would have been boring. So, instead of a paper I used a light smoke haze to diffuse the light a bit. It turned out the colour temperature difference wasn’t that dramatic after all. Correcting it by slightly removing magenta here and there was actually very easy. Maybe, just maybe I don’t have to tear the lights off to change the leds after all. We’ll see.
The funny thing is that now I have a photograph of the EVA pod in a smoky atmosphere, a circumstance it probably would never be photographed in - if it was a real spacecraft, that is. This is more like a scene from Star Trek Into Darkness with the Enterprise underwater, only with a 2001 crossover. I should add some bubbles and fish to this...
