For this Photo Combination photo, I started with a cropped version of my wildflower’s scene to showcase the yellow wildflowers. I adjusted the tint up to 100 to bring out more of the oranges and yellows and deepen the purple of the trees in the background. The photo I selected to combine with my wildflower scene was one that also consisted of yellow wildflowers. In this scene, you feel the warmth of the bright sun shining on the wildflowers which contrasts the darker, purplish background in my original photo. In a way, it seems like the sun shining in the brighter lighter left image is giving light to the flowers in the darker right image. There is a mesquite tree in the middle of both photos that blend the light and dark photos together. Since my original photo was captured in Texas, I wanted to stick with the wildflower theme and add in a local tree that I have seen during my nature hikes that I thought would work nicely.
I enjoyed working on this photo assignments as it pushed me to look at my original photo with a different perspective. I do not think I would have attempted to alter them in this manner without the prompt. I think in its own way the image lends to art. Overall, the image still accomplishes my goal of focusing on shapes and silhouettes with a whimsy feel. It gave me an opportunity to play with light and different points of view, highlighting the frames differently. Working with the different layers and trying to blend them together was probably the hardest. I found it difficult to add in some layers that overshadowed the original photo or changed the look of the photo in a way I did not like, so I made several selections and edits before I found one that I felt worked over the rest. Engaging in this process was therapeutic as it pushed me to be very present in the process, quieting the outside world as I emerged myself in this work. It also allowed me to see how one photo can be changed in ways I couldn’t even imagine from when I first captured it. With a different perspective, direction, and creativity, one image can be translated into whole new worlds.
I do wish I could have figured out how to eliminate some of the bright spots on the right image towards the top to give a more seamless transition.

Strip Light: 90 degrees from camera
The photos in this set are part of a series of lighting experiments I did in the studio. I worked with a great model and learned more about the gear. I wanted to see how the light looked on her body. I found significant differences with subtle changes to the lighting technique. I didn't plan on publishing the photos but thought they came out great. Plus Dina is a very expressive model.
Module 5 - Portraits
Taken while relaxing in the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh - open late for the summer solstice.
I was at home this weekend with my family and decided to take pictures of the Merrill home from the “outsiders” perspective. I changed my ISO to 400 for most because it was cloudy, but also had a little bit of sun shining through. I put my white balance to auto to help me automatically balance the color. I had my aperature set to f/11 because there was sun shining on the items I was photographing.
