This MODIS / Aqua image taken the afternoon of May 7, 2010, only shows the thickest part of the oil slick resulting from the ongoing Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Clouds, nearshore turbidity and sediment from the Mississippi River outlet channels, and haze are obscuring what may be large areas affected by oil slick and sheen. Compare with NOAA map showing oil slicks mapped by aerial overflights and predicted by trajectory modeling.
I took these back in November, but couldn't post them until today, as the client (www.schiit.com) was launching these as a surprise and they didn't want their competition getting wind of it. Pictured here are a USA made usb-powered DAC and a headphone amplifier, each for only $99. If you're into good sound, do yourself a favor and check them out!

During the afternoon of Friday July 19, 2013 a strong convective band, just ahead of a potent cold front sweeping south from Central Ontario, caused widespread damage. Just minutes after this Modis 1km Infrared image was taken, convective wind gusts caused large trees to fall and overturned cars in Coldwater and Gravenhurst, Ontario.

This MODIS/Aqua satellite image, taken on June 12, has a broad sunglint pattern centered on the eastern Gulf that effectively illuminates the main oil slick as well as areas of what we interpret as much thinner sheen. The bright band of sunglint spanning this image reveals fine structure (squiggly bright lines) in areas to the east of what we interpret as the main area of oil slick; this structure can be caused by natural surfactants, or it may indicate very thin layers of residual sheen related to the ongoing spill. As on June 9, there is some ambiguity in our delineation of the area of slicks and sheen (orange line), which extends across an area of 23,140 square miles (59,932 km2).
Oil appears to be making landfall across 40 miles of coast east of Mobile Bay, from Gulf Shores, Alabama to Perdido Key, Florida. Tendrils of oil, possibly thin sheen, reach toward the Florida coast from Pensacola almost as far east as Panama City.
“RED, WHITE and BLUE” at Modi’in Street Art Festival, July 6, 2011
The Office of Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv invited the residents of Modi’in, a modern, planned city with an ever growing population in the center of the country, to a “Meet America and Get Acquainted” Day in the city’s Cultural Plaza, as part of the city’s first “Street Art Festival.” Embassy-sponsored U.S. break dance and hip hop dancers, Geoffrey Chang, Gabriel Gerome Joachino, and Moises Rivas wowed the children, teenagers, and families with their “super-cool” moves before performing in the “Battle of the Year break dance competition.
The crowds then moved to investigate the Embassy’s colorful booth, with bunting, balloons and give-away water bottles who were eager to enjoy the grassy flooring and comfortable poofs, watch street dance videos, inquire about U.S. studies, visas to the U.S. and to enjoy the American atmosphere -- right in the middle of Israel.
