When I'm all done starting seeds in the house for the year, off the shelves come! I could even pop out the tabs and there would only be a few little holes. The shelves are scrap cedar 1x4 from old fencing projects.

I great way to involve little kids in the seed starting process. I just have Lila hold her hand directly above the little flat and then I pour a few seeds at a time into her hand. All she has to do is turn her hand over to dump them into the soil.

Of course she has to get a little creative with dumping the seeds! She is brushing them off of her hands. Really that just makes them stick to both hands and fly about on all sides of the seed flat but hey what's a few seeds lost in the process.
