The house is built around three trees one of which grows through an interior pocket courtyard.
The project was designed using Vectorworks software. Contractor: Francisco Lopez Construction.

post-construction, the budget was tight but I think we got a good start here. simple, elegant and green. most of the sidewalk runoff just wanders on to the lawn.
the six small windows are echoed on the opposite side of the yard for balance and a literal connection between the architecture and the land.

we needed to rust this steel quickly. parts of it needed to be sealed so they wouldn't stain the concrete. we spent hours in safety glasses, gloves and lab coats out in the yard working with muriatic acid... it was a bummer to eventually learn that it was vinegar that working best. although when we were done we smelled like walking bottles of Kombucha.
