A sweeping panorama of Kaldnes Brygge captured from the historic Slottsfjellet viewpoint. This image, stitched from 12 high-resolution frames, reveals the vibrant waterfront architecture glowing against the winter dusk. The calm water mirrors the golden lights of modern apartments, while the hillside beyond tells the story of Tønsberg’s layered heritage. A perfect blend of urban life and serene Nordic winter.

Fun Fact

Kaldnes Brygge was once home to the Kaldnes Mekaniske Verksted, a major shipyard in Tønsberg. Today, it stands as a modern residential and commercial hub, transforming the city’s industrial past into a contemporary waterfront community.

More and more modern apartments have been built supplying houses for people in Ho Chi Minh city.

Unbalance in development and plan make the poor must live in the slums instead of modern apartments.

A corrugated metal warehouse stands illuminated during blue hour at Pier 70, San Francisco's historic waterfront district. The building's gambrel roof and white metal siding exemplify the industrial vernacular architecture that characterizes this transformed maritime neighborhood in the Dogpatch area.

The structure features a large roll-up loading door and minimal windows, indicating warehouse or light industrial use. Modern exterior lighting highlights the building's clean lines against the deepening twilight sky. The prominent "American Industrial Center" signage identifies this as part of Pier 70's mixed-use development, which combines industrial buildings with contemporary residential and commercial spaces.

Behind the warehouse, a modern blue and white residential building represents the new construction bringing housing density to this San Francisco waterfront location. Young street trees line the sidewalk, part of recent streetscape improvements transforming the former shipyard into a walkable urban neighborhood. The architectural contrast between utilitarian industrial forms and contemporary apartments illustrates Pier 70's evolution from working shipyard to mixed-use district.

The blue hour lighting creates dramatic atmosphere, with warm artificial lights glowing against the rich twilight sky. Empty streets at this evening hour allow clear views of the building's functional design—corrugated metal construction, simple geometric forms, and flexible interior spaces suitable for warehousing, creative studios, maker spaces, or tech offices.

This scene captures Pier 70's character as San Francisco's premier adaptive reuse project, where industrial heritage meets contemporary urban development in the Bay Area's Dogpatch neighborhood. The waterfront district combines historic maritime architecture with new residential buildings, public parks, and commercial spaces, creating a dynamic mixed-use neighborhood on San Francisco Bay.

This layered cityscape of San Francisco captures the architectural diversity and vertical drama of the Cathedral Hill and Lower Pacific Heights neighborhoods. In the foreground, we see a modernist apartment building with a sleek, gray-toned façade and clean-lined bay windows. Its horizontal rhythm and sharp geometry reflect mid-century and contemporary design trends, framed with a subtle cantilevered red awning.

But what truly commands attention is the richly ornamented brick high-rise in the background. With its elaborate cornice, white terra cotta trim, and bold window framing, the building exemplifies early 20th-century apartment house design—part Beaux-Arts, part Spanish Colonial Revival, and unmistakably San Franciscan. Set at a corner, the structure stands as a historic anchor amid more recent development, offering a tactile sense of the city’s architectural evolution.

This portion of Geary Boulevard, known for its steep grade and mix of residential and civic buildings, reveals the layering of time that defines much of San Francisco. The angled late-morning light casts dramatic shadows along the façades, highlighting decorative moldings and the crisp rhythm of windows and balconies.

A wide-angle lens captures the contrast in style and scale, making this image a study in architectural juxtaposition: minimalism meets ornament, soft shadows meet bright stucco, and early-century grandeur meets contemporary restraint. For lovers of urban form and light-play, this is a quintessential San Francisco moment.

Shad Thames is one of the many dark and mysterious back streets on the south bank of the River Thames (Think Charles Dickens!) This has the strange name of Shad Thames and to the right is Butlers wharf that sits on the river bank and the bridges would have been used to transfer goods between the buildings that had been off-loaded from the hundreds of tall ships and clippers that used London as a port of call.

In Victorian times, Shad Thames was the largest warehouse complex in London, used to store huge quantities of tea, coffee, spices and other commodities. The last warehouses closed in 1972, but the area has since been redeveloped with the warehouses being converted into very expensive flats, restaurants, bars.
