Loved the shape of this massive window in downtown Chicago, and the obvious care that went into the design of the molding and numbering. Loved the decay. And I really loved the model airplanes.

The Douglas DC-3 (with the military variants Douglas C-47 and Douglas Dakota) is, according to Wikipedia, the passenger resp. transport aircraft produced in the largest numbers until today, and certainly one of the most famous ones. For Swissair, 16 aircraft flew from 1937 to 1969. The machine with the designation HB-IRO as the prototype of the model was acquired in 1938 and flown by Swissair until 1955, then sold. The Swissair flight plan No. 6 was valid from May 25, 1948. The binoculars 8X30 Deltrintem were made by Carl Zeiss Jena (I'm very sorry, dear Swiss friends: Of course, in true style, it should be a model by Kern Aarau, but unfortunately none of those were to hand...).

How about a little city trip? It seems there will even be on-board service.

Now, which time zone do we want to set for the first destination of our little trip? How about "10" for Aden - or maybe "23" for Anchorage?
The bird on the right is the newest addition to our little family. His name is Mr. Alfred and he flew to us from far, far away. š¦ Mr. Alfred absolutely loves flying and airplanes! ā Sammy and I showed him our model biplane. I picked it up and started circling it above his head. Mr. Alfred got so excited and he started hopping around and flapping those big wings of his Heās truly an amazing guy. Iāve got a feeling this birdās gonna bring us a ton of fun
Oh, and if you check out the background, you might spot Sammyās buddy Boo flying a tiny airplane. I can't wait to see Alfred's reaction when he spots him! š

Huge shoutout to the awesome photographer Rimgal Kirax for telling me about this crazy bird he spotted in one of his pictures! Thank you!

So there he was, sitting in his hotel room, trying to wash down his frustration, anger and rage with - well, how many? Not the first, nor the second, nor the third, and it didn't really matter which one - whisky, which he had ordered to be brought to his room. Of course, he wouldn't succeed this time either.
He was annoyed and furious with himself, of course. Above all, however, he was annoyed and furious with the high-ups, who were puffing themselves up like anything; always ready for a harsh order or oh-so-well-intentioned piece of advice, but hadn't spent a minute on a mission themselves. He had literally been told (well, "told" was actually not the right word) to get his ass into the hotel room and wait for a certain commercial attachƩ, Count von und zu Storchenweier, with further orders.
He had actually been successful. He had flown from Stuttgart to Zurich in the Swissair plane, fairly well protected from overzealous air defense by its red and white "neutrality stripes" on the fuselage and wings, on the company's last remaining route.
He had traveled as an absolutely credible industrial representative of the German Reich. Understandably, nobody wanted to mess things up with someone like that. As a valued guest, he had met important men (and beautiful women) at that noble banquet and at more clandestine events. And practically all of them, like their backers, would do whatever was politely asked of them to ensure that the very discreetly captured images they showed them in conversation with quite remarkable counterparts did not fall into the wrong hands or even become public.
He had very discreetly captured them all on film - or not, actually. There was really no need to load and expose the same film twice.

Yellow roadside umbels framing the flyer and his two model planes, one on the ground and the other in the air above the flowers. Showing a wider view of the hills surrounding.
The Tamiya kit.
Decals are a combination of the Tamiya kit decal and Techmod 48068. This Techmod decal gave me some trouble--the two large white '155' markings bled during manufacture, and it wasn't evident to me how serious this was until I dipped them in water. The decal that I used on the port side of the model wasn't so bad, but I didn't photograph the starboard side, because the decal on that side was noticeably fuzzy.
This model depicts Vought F4U-1D Corsair VF-84 White 155, USS Bunker Hill, February, 1945.
Static display @ Buffalo Naval Museum, the model aircraft was suspended over a model aircraft carrier by wires with a background of a city.
I believe the aircraft is suppose to be a Grumman F4F Wildcat.

This model depicts Northwest Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32 N984US. It displays the Northwest Airlines livery as it appeared between 1985 and 1989--essentially the scheme that Northwest Orient used throughout the 1970s, but now with the word 'Orient' deleted from the title.
The decals for the Northwest livery were taken from the Flight Path MD80 sheet. The decals for the windows, registration, and detailing were taken from scraps accumulated from earlier projects over the years.
The old Airfix kit. Decals are a combination of the original kit decal and Techmod 72013 Hawker Hurricane Mk. I.
This model depicts airplane RF-E/P3700, flown during the Battle of Britain by Pilot Sgt. Kazimierz Wünsche of 303 Polish Squadron, Northolt. During an engagement on September 9, 1940, Pilot Sgt. Wünsche shot down two German planes: an Me109 and an He111. During the engagement, Pilot Sgt. Wünsche was himself shot down. He survived with injuries and burns, and returned to combat after hospitalization.

The classic Revell kit, converted from an F4F-4 to an F4F-3. Decals by AeroMaster, expanded to 1/32 scale. This model depicts the plane Lt. John S. Thach flew in 1942 as the CO of VF-3, USS Lexington.
I think my photo the last few days have been less than outstanding so I took a little bit of an extra step and put some effort into today's photo.
After my stepdad watched 'The Aviator', this model plane mysteriously appeared out of nowhere the next day. Anyways, we're doing some late spring cleaning and I just brought this outside to take photos of. Hope you guys like it.

The Matchbox/AMT kit. Decals by ABT.
This model is a composite, generally representative of the various Bf109E's of Jagdgeschwader 26 (JG 26) flown under the command of Adolf Galland and Josef Priller during the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain in WWII.
Finally done enough to put it away in the cupboard. It is a Kinetic 1/48 scale F-16C issued by Italeri. Some fragile parts for an old bloke.

The old 1/24 scale MPC kit. This kit was originally released in 1970 by Airfix, but was also licensed out to MPC in 1971.
The Airfix/MPC 1/24 Spitfire kit is 55 years old. The molding and fit are problematic, and require a lot of cutting, as well as significant gap-filling and sanding. The original kit decals were unusable, so I had to cut and use decals from a variety of sources, including Techmod, SuperScale lettering, scrap, and extra decaling that originally came from a Trumpeter 1/24 scale Hawker Hurricane.
This model depicts airplane KL-A X4650 of 54 Squadron, Catterick, flown by Pilot Sergeant Howard Squire. The plane actually never saw battle, because it collided with another Spitfire (KL-B, flown by Flight Comnander Alan Deere) during a training exercise. Both pilots survived, but KL-A X4650 crashed into the River Leven. It was discovered in the river in 1976 and restored, and is now active at Duxford, England.
