The third component of positive freedom in Timothy Snyder's new book "On Freedom" is Mobility. Originally in America, this was perhaps about moving to the frontier, as the country expanded, and having the ability to build one's own life in new places. After the frontier closed, mobility in America became more about social mobility, the ability to move up the socioeconomic ladder and join the middle class. Increasing wealth inequality leads to less ability to do so; the ability to be mobile is a critical part of positive freedom.

My third entry for Polaroid Week represents Mobility with the addition of a motion blur filter from the Polaroid Spectra family of cameras, part of the Special Effects Filters package. I placed this over the lens of my Mint SLR-670X with I-Type support as I shot a portrait using Polaroid Retinex film.

Collage of the beach

a variety of different photographs.

Morfa Bychan, known locally as Black Rock Sands, is a sandy beach, with rocky areas- although the rocks aren’t actually black. The beach stretches for about 2 miles and is backed by a dune system which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. There are plenty of rockpools to explore here as well as some interesting caverns.

A river mouth lies at the south-eastern end of the beach, and the village of Morfa Bychan is a few hundred meters away. The beach has lovely views of the mountains and countryside of Snowdonia National Park.

A slipway provides vehicular access to the sands and most visitors park on the beach, making it a popular picnic destination and providing easy access for those with mobility problems. There are designated bathing and boat launching areas. Dogs are banned from the central section of the beach, but are allowed on the eastern and western sections.

There are a number of holiday parks in the area surrounding the beach. In the village of Morfa Bychan there are shops, places to eat and a golf club. There are more facilities in the town of Porthmadog, about 2 miles from the beach.

in 2022’s exploratory mission to Portugal, I noticed that there’s a whole lotta older dudes who never smile, and only “show” a frown.

Not- a neutral expression, not a happy or even, gleeful grin- only a frown.

Now- as a Temporary Resident of The Northern Regions of this

Nation that only was freed from a Dictatorship since ’74, I have a theory I’ve developed, about why this is.

And- it’s directly related to the psychological trauma of living in a Nation that was so deprived of upward mobility and of Education and Freedoms.

Just “my-theory”, and

I am not a (professional ) Sociologist or a Psychologist- and not played one on T.V. or on Screen - either.

As people get older, you may find that their mobility begins to suffer. This is very common, and in most cases it is simply one of the problems of ageing. However, it can cause enormous distress.

Even apparently minor difficulties for your elderly relative can have a large effect on their life. For example, they may not be able to go out and see their friends, or they may find shopping for their groceries too difficult. It can have social and psychological effects, and can even lead to depression.

Mobility issues can also indicate more serious health problems, so it is always important to look out for the problem signs and take steps to solve issues promptly.

Early Signs to Look Out For

There are a number of signs that you can look out for that could indicate the start of a problem in your elderly relative. These include:

Balance issues such as becoming unsteady when walking

Having difficulty getting out of a chair or when sitting down

Experiencing difficulties going up or down the stairs

Potential problems could also be more subtle, such as a lowering of their personal hygiene standards, or you may notice the house becoming less tidy as they are less able to clean it properly.

Today's story and sketch by me #1430, is possibly the best sports story to report, in quite awhile from this Tropical Volcanic Planet we call Budahunga. This story started this morning, while I was just cruising along in my antigravity personal mobility scooter, when I spotted a Big Blue Dimension Dust Devil, meandering along the valley floor, when it suddenly stopped, spit out someone with a set of golf clubs. It turns out he is Arno Barker a famous Zombie Golf Professional, from the Planet Agusta. He was actually in a tournament walking to the Tenth Green, when he was snatched up by the Blue Dust Devil, and transported from one dimension to another, before being spit out, still standing holding a three iron. It will be an interesting story to find out Just where the Planet Agusta is located, and why Arno was clutching the three iron, which is for most players, the most useless club in golf. As interesting as that may be it will have to be a story for another time, until then Tata the Rod Blog.

Today's story and sketch by me #1415, is a tragic story about the pedestrian, and the dude on the mobility scooter, the dude on the scooter arrived trough a fuzzy crimson Stargates, one not previously seen by myself or any of or Deputies. He shot out of the Stargate traveling at about 70 miles per hour, or about 112 kilometers an hour. And has been riding in a large circle for the last hour. The Pedestrian arrived 20 minutes ago, through a Big Blue Dimension Dust Devil, holding what looks some type of light, which it turns out is not a light but some kind of percussion weapon. Just a few moments from now the pedestrian, must have been annoyed at the dude on the scooter, because he aimed it at the scooter, and the scooter and the dude, it gave off a loud sound like a giant Gong, the scooter stopped and disappeared, as did the dude. How the Pedestrian came to Our Tropical Volcanic Planet we call Budahunga, with such a diabolical weapon, and what happened to the dude, and his scooter, will have to be a story for another time, until then Tata the Rod Blog.
