MoPOP is located on the campus of Seattle Center, adjacent to the Space Needle and the Seattle Center Monorail, which runs through the building. The structure itself was designed by Frank Gehry and resembles many of his firm's other works in its sheet-metal construction, such as Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Gehry Tower. Much of the building material is exposed in the building's interior. The building contains 140,000 square feet (13,000 m2), with a 35,000-square-foot (3,300 m2) footprint. The name of the museum's central Sky Church pays homage to Jimi Hendrix.

The Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) is housed in a 140,000 square foot Frank O. Gehry designed building. A fusion of textures and myriad colors, MoPOP’s exterior conveys all the energy and fluidity of music. Three-thousand panels, made up of 21 thousand individually cut and shaped stainless steel and painted aluminum shingles, encase the outside of the building.

Their individual finishes respond to different light conditions and appear to change when viewed from different angles, reminding audiences that music and culture is constantly evolving.

You can see the entire building in the first comment.

"Hey hey, my my

Rock and roll can never die

There's more to the picture

Than meets the eye.

Hey hey, my my...."

Although I love good ol' Neil Young I really like this version of his song too.

I'm amazed at how many of you knew what this thing was, I didn't confirm it until last night but sure enough, it's an ink eraser. Some or you have even seen the other two, one in Paradise Nevada, one in that OTHER Washington. It is one of MANY collaborations between Claes Oldenburg and Coosje Van Bruggen including 'Lipstick on Caterpillar Tracks', 'Clothespin', and who can forget 'Torn Notebook.'

Here is the color version for those who care, I like 'em both so what the heck. I also had a correction, I forgot that the EMP is now MOPOP, The Museum of Pop Culture. If you MUST go to Seattle, you must visit this place (and ride the duck) :-)
