Synthetic Times: Media Art China 2008, a Cultural Olympics project that will open at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing in June 2008, launches in NYC with programming co-organized by the exhibition’s curator, Zhang Ga, the MoMA, Parsons School of Design and Eyebeam. www.mediartchina.org/events/newyorkmoma
On April 15, following a day-long symposium at Parsons, Eyebeam featured a performance of Invisible Threads by Eyebeam artists Jeff Crouse and Stephanie Rothenberg, as well as performances by Taeyoon Choi and Friedrich Kirchner. www.eyebeam.org/engage/engage.php?page=unique&id=168

About Invisible Threads:
Invisible Threads is a mixed reality performance installation created by Eyebeam artists Jeff Crouse and Stephanie Rothenberg. The project explores the growing intersection between labor, emerging virtual economies and real life commodities through the creation of a designer jeans sweatshop in the metaverse Second Life. Simulating a real life manufacturing facility that includes hiring Second Life “workers” to produce real world jeans sold for profit, the project provides an insider’s view into current modes of global, telematic production.

This event is being brought to you through the CNRS (National Center For Scientific Research) and the APC (Astroparticule et Cosmologie) Laboratory. The APC laboratory lies at the interface between the study of the very large and the very small, and it brings together several communities (experimentalists, observers and theoreticians). It is centered on three themes: cosmology and gravitation, high energy astrophysics, neutrinos.
During the inauguration of The House of Astroparticule on 14 May, it will be possible to view the launch of the Planck satellite at Kourou (Guyana) at about 1300 UTC (6AM SLT), to visit its virtual replica and to meet with scientists during the conferences and the projections which will surround the event. APC Laboratories Second Life presence was created by i-Marginal, one of our French Solution Providers. (CNRS Press Release in French)

A Mixed Reality Performance in Second Life & Real Life as part of the
International Society for Improvised Music (ISIM)
Second Annual Conference: Building Bridges
15 december 2007
funksoup.com/portfolio/isim07/
A mixed-reality improvisation between performers in the virtual world of Second Life and performers in Real Life at the International Society of Improvised Music (ISIM).
ISIM is an interdisciplinary conference that brings together performers, educators, researchers, students and community members from across the world, in an effort to recognize improvisation as a powerful tool for achieving this integration.
Second Life performers dance with improvised music from Real Life at ISIM. Real Life performers are Pauline Oliveros - electronics, harmonica & small instruments with spoken word artist Ione & dancer Heloise Gold. Second Life animations and performance by Josephine Dorado, John D. Mitchell, Edo Paulus, Christine Benham, Lauren Watson and Sean Nevin - performing from Arizona, New York, and Amsterdam.

Err... an earlier stage of the build. The submarines shouldn't really be flying... especially not above the blimp.

Finger Food Studios, a small and mighty tech firm based in Port Coquitlam, BC, is creating jobs and radically evolving how businesses work with mixed reality in a real-life Holodeck.
The 25,000 square foot warehouse allows holographic design engineers to converge physical and digital worlds and build life-size holograms that provide a platform to help solve their clients’ most challenging technical issues, a process that has never been done before at this scale.
