Autumn finally showed up and it was worth the wait. Freezing conditions meant mist and fog. Here it's drifting across the surface of Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District.

...after a day of rain.

This mist inversion looked breathtaking under the colours of the rising sun.

The environment on the Ben Lomond plateau is very similar to the Scottish Highlands (hence the name). Lots of crags among the dolerite as the rocks slowly break down over a long period of time. In the Jurassic period, Ben Lomond was a giant volcano, and then before the end of the last ice age a huge glacier covered its top.
