**

Every year at the same time, for a few days, Lake Bourget takes on its emerald green hue

This is due, on the one hand to the phytoplankton present in the lake which develops and proliferates naturally during sunny days and on the other hand to the calcium bicarbonate also present in the lake which for the same reasons of heat is transformed into tiny grains. calcite that attaches to plankton.

This phenomenon disappears after a few days as soon as the phytoplankton has finished consuming the calcite grains

From time to time we need to view an image like this to put us in the overall Nature's context. The minuscule humans facing the Forces of Nature there, are like ants (please enlarge the image to see them on the edge of the cliff). Their presence provides scale to what you are looking at. The sheer size of the scene is tremendous.

Aldeyjarfoss (the waterfall) is certainly a beautiful sight but there are other beautiful views there, as this image shows. I invite you to take a look and see the details of the amazing basalt columns that follow the river after the waterfall. Nature at its best! To think that volcanic action and the passing of time created this marvel is awesome!

Do you see the green house and the big tree at the foot of the monuments? They look so tiny in this vastness.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO:

I don't know what it is about the horse pasture across from my garden that makes me photograph it again and again, but it seems there's just something about it that enchants me, particularly on a foggy day. This is already the 4th photo that I upload here (and the third from practically the same angle) that shows this particular stretch of land - and I fear there might be even more coming 😉.

As I already described in the earlier photos, I took this shot on a spring morning in 2021 after it had been raining all night. By dawn it had cleared up, but the valley below our village had filled with mist, which started to rise as soon as the sun came up behind the mountains. I grabbed my camera and ran out of the house to catch the moment when the mist reached our village just as the sunrise sent the first rays of light through the trees.

It was as gorgeous a morning as you can imagine; the meadows were still wet from the rain, and tiny droplets of water were sparkling everywhere in the grass, illuminated by the sunbeams cutting through the ghostlike trees. I feel in black and white all those minuscule diamonds reflecting the sunlight come out a bit more than they do in color, and the same is true for the sunbeams, but it's hard to do the breathtaking beauty of that moment justice in either, and I'm already more than happy if only a fraction of the magical mood of that misty morning can be be felt by the viewer.

Anyway, I hope that you enjoy the photo; as always: many greetings from Switzerland and have a lovely weekend everyone - and don't hesitate to let me know what you think dear Flickr friends.

I was given a bunch of flowers for Christmas. It included some Banksia flowers and Eucalyptus foliage as well as small (0.7 in) flowers that look like minuscule Dahlias, shown in the photo. The bunch also included something else I had not seen before - branches covered in glitter which give rise to the bokeh in the photo.

.................................

The days flow, creating their own path, each minute like a drop of water that slides imperceptibly across the surface. At some point the sum of moments will be revealed and you will see an image in front of reality: nothing is in vain. Every minute takes its minuscule toll and when it comes to accounting, the differences appear. Taking stock of the drops of time can show a path to the sea or a tortuous path that leads nowhere. Keep an eye on every drop, every minute you deliver is relentlessly accountable.

The Kingfisher, remarkable for its characteristic silhouette and bright colors, is a bird of modest size, Perched, he stands erect. The body, short and stocky, seems disproportionate compared to the large head extended by a long beak-shaped dagger (4 cm). The tiny red legs and the very rudimentary tail are also characteristic signs of the Alcedo genus. The two dominant colors of the plumage are blue, which can change to green depending on the brightness on the top, and the orange red hot on the lower parts. Closer to home, there is the top of the head and the greenish-blue wings, the back and tail light blue ranging from azure blue to cobalt blue and the white throat. The sides of the neck also white are bordered at the cheek of an orange spot underlined by a broad blue band. The beak of the male is entirely black, that of the female is tinged with red or orange at the base of the lower mandible. The juvenile resembles the adult, but with the feathers duller and greener. The legs are grayish. The short wings are animated by sustained beats allowing a very fast and straight flight.

This rocky headland is another great vantage point to look across to this small island and lighthouse.

Godrevy lighthouse was built in 1859 to warn shipping about the dangerous "Stones" reef, which extends right across this bay to St Ives.

Right on the edge of the headland there is a person looking out to sea, she is minuscule , it gives a great sense of scale to this magnificent place.

Tiny brownish sandpiper. At all ages, most easily distinguished from other small sandpipers by darker, more brownish coloration. Juveniles are particularly bright with rusty tones on the upperparts. Also note fine-tipped bill and yellowish legs, but beware legs can be covered with dark mud and other peeps (like Semipalmated Sandpiper) can rarely show slightly greenish legs. Habitat and behavior are helpful supporting clues, too. Typically forages in a crouched posture with bent legs, picking for invertebrates in the mud. Often in small loose groups, but not in large, tight flocks like Semipalmated or Western Sandpipers. Prefers drier mud, often on the higher edges of mudflats or small patches of water in marshes. Widespread and common, especially inland. Breeds in various wetland habitats throughout Alaska and Canada. Winters from the southern U.S. to South America. Listen for high-pitched, rolling “greeep!” calls. (eBird)

We missed most of the shorebird migration, but we did find a pair of Least Sandpipers.

Thank you very much for your comments, they are always very much appreciated.

Apart from Sophie the Kingfisher and some members of her family, the bird most frequently observed at my house in summer is certainly the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I have always been fond of this tiny nervous, hyperactive bird. I love watching them interacting together. They have a lot of character and love there perches that no other bird can take from them. My wife and I have many perennials, annuals and wildflowers to provide for them and for our great viewing pleasure.
