Pelton wheel with water pipe and control valve at North Star Mine Museum in Grass Valley, CA. The water would spin the the Pelton Wheel, which would drive the flat belt drive pulley providing power to many operations at the mine.

Cornish Walking Beam Pump at North Star Mining Museum and Power House in Grass Valley, CA. Was able to pump 1,000 gallons per minute to help keep the gold mines dry.

Gold mining stamp mills at North Star Mining Museum and Power House in Grass Valley, CA. These stamp mills were used to break up the ore to release the gold from the rock. Note the cams that made the shafts go up and then drop when they came off of the ends of the cams. Side view showing belt drive pulley wheel.
