Dwarfing the cities they serve, these ancient monstrosities are a feature of the dark and desolate Draggone homeworld.
My entry for the 2013 MOCathalon, category 'Black and White - Create a moc that uses two and only two different Lego colors.'.
More pics here.
It wasn't easy to build, but I really like how the robot turned out.
I hope you like it!
(I'm one of the mice, the biggest one actually XD the other mice will post occassionally also. :D).
This rather good picture is taken at Gospel Oak, Tipton. It shows a happy family next to their house which is sinking into the ground. The family are wearing clogs, not unusual in the late 19th century. Behind the billowing washing a newly built railway line is visible, I hope the surveyors took note of the house. In front of the house tram tracks are set into the road, by the lightness of the track and the granite setts between the rails this could be a horse tramway.
Undated.

Big Pit Blaenavon. Former South Wales Coal Field works 1860 - 1980
Now a Heritage Museum where visitors can descend in the Miners Cage to coal faces
Enjoyed our visit back in 2010
This is a female Tawny Mining Bee (Andrena fulva); a beautiful bee I think. I saw some a few days ago but couldn't manage to photograph them.
For these white background shots, I capture the bee in a pot, put it in the shade for a while and then transfer with a water-colour brush onto a white card. I find that you then have around 30 seconds before the bee is ready to fly off. I then transfer them back to the garden.
Gwenap Pit - some information.
A depression caused by mining subsidence was subsequently used as an open air preaching pit. It dates from the mid-eighteenth century. It is located in what was the greatest copper mining district of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and one of the most densely populated areas at the time.
Located just to the south of Redruth on the eastern slopes of Carn Marth, its fame is due largely to the preachings of John Wesley, who used the pit on 18 occasions from 1776-89. He greatly exaggerated its size (he put it at 200x300ft and 50ft deep) and it is possible that the same applies to his estimate that his largest audience was 32,000. In his memory the local people excavated the pit in 1806 into a regular oval 37m across and 8m deep. They added 13 rows of turf seats. A Whit-Monday service has been held there since 1807, and it has been used for other purposes, eg. Chartists met in 1839, and there was a theatre performance in 1951.

The long established coal mining industry in the Beipiao area of China's Liaoning Province and output is now apparently declining. Taiji Mine did not seem to be turning out much coal, but it certainly has a most unusual winding tower.
GHH mining machine underground shovel, when they were introduced in the Monteponi mine, helped to make the work lighter and faster. He wouldn't mind seeing it displayed in a protected area and not exposed to the elements. A machine created to work indoors that ends its "career" outdoors. The most interesting part are the reinforcements made by hand welding along the entire profile of the blade of the shovel. Although not a certainly functional artistic work; this is proof of the mastery and skills that the staff had acquired in working in a mine like this.
Old mining town at the end of a 30 mile dirt/gravel road. Midas has about 12 year round residents - a few more in the summer.
I built this MOC for Andromeda's Gates on Eurobricks. It shows a MANTIS mining base in full swing, there's even some little loader trucks carrying loads of Awesomnium. The building has a full interior as well.
This composite shows mining bees emerging from a domestic lawn in Crowborough . Mining bees usually nest in the ground and at first the entrances to their burrows can look like worm casts. On closer inspection the burrows can be seen to be marked by little mounds of earth. They are good pollinators and harmless.
They are much smaller than honey bees and their burrows can be 60 cm deep. A clump of pollen is accumulated in the burrow and the female will then lay her egg on the clump. The bees hibernate over winter in the burrows and emerge in spring as these ones in my daughter's garden have. There are around 100 different species in the UK but I'm not clever enough to identify which these particular bees are.
More detail viewed large.
I've passed this area many times but this day I stopped just to get this photo which I discovered the mine just to the left of this.

Colony Field Report --- Med-Lab --- Dr. Wormoth --- 2.506.127
The Earth Mining Commission had finally taken control of the element harvesting project on Mars after the Estonians had given up their interest in the venture. We worked diligently for months, rebuilding the facilities and converting the ergonomics for human usage. After the retrofit was completed, we continued work on a massive vein of Plegaltonium, a mineral native to Mars, and began our project.
Work proceeded well into the New Year, and only a few minor setbacks occurred. It was to be expected; the risks were written into their contracts, that some miners would perish during the operations. We also prepared for the inevitable psychological stressors that would present in the wives and children living on the colony. Some of them had never before left their home state, let alone the planet Earth.
Something has changed during the past three weeks however. At first the miners were coming back from their operations, complaining of relentless fatigue, nausea, even momentary loss of vision. Two harvesters collided last week when one of the drivers became blinded. Then the discoloration quickly set in, their skin turning a foul rust color, brittle and flaking off. We’ve lost ten miners this week alone, all with the same symptoms.
It now seems to be spreading inside the facilities, even with the constant use of the decontamination rooms. Lieutenant Brownstone’s wife just lost her vision yesterday and collapsed to the floor, dead within an hour or so. Her body was placed in a quarantine chamber and still awaits autopsy. The speed at which this is now spreading, whatever it is, seems to be on an exponential curve.
After appealing to the Mining Commission today, they still won’t stop operations at this time. I fear, at this point it wouldn’t matter, as we seem to be.
Take a look at Victor and the nearby gold mine from Google earth. The mining operation is to the north of the city. www.google.com/maps/place/Victor,+CO/@38.7094974,-105.145...
A small group of tiny male Slender Mining bees (Lasioglossum calceatum) settle down these lavender seed heads each evening, spend the night, and leave each morning to continue their search for pollen.
These small, ground nesting solitary bees usually nest in steep banks, and are found throughout most of Britain and Ireland. They visit a wide variety of flowers, and are usually seen from April to October.

Finishing Mining March (in April) with the last MOC!
Eruei created this doll with the idea of building Aigara a new house for each planet she would visit, so she would have a place to sleep in everytime. However, he descarted the concept after realizing how impractical would be that idea: it would require to build a small house in less than a day, consuming a lot of resources around and leaving ultimately a lot of abandoned houses. Not only that, despise the amazing speed of building this doll has, it ended causing a lot of damage in the surroundings, which was quite a problem. But the doll was already built soo...

Nevadaville, Colorado - an up close view of the structure of previous photo and I always thought that space under it at ground level was more that just the level the structure. With a population of bout 4000.
Nevadaville started in 1859, soon after John H. Gregory found the first lode gold in what is now Colorado. At the time, the townsite was in western Kansas Territory. The town grew to house the miners working the Burroughs lode and the Kansas lode. The population was predominantly Irish.[1]
