I've said this before, but it bears repeating: You quickly learn you can't use a typewriter like it was a laptop computer. Curious thing is this ad predates the kind of laptop you can comfortably put on your lap by about twenty years.

Me and my friend Martin Hughes bought new cars aorund the same time I bought my new camera. Decided to have a bit of fun and combine the purchases to create some art!
My basic gear for this trip included an Osprey Aether 70 pack equipped with a two-liter hydration bladder, a Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight 2 tent, an old (but pretty light) Moonstone sleeping bag, a Thermarest Z-Lite sleeping pad, a pair of Garmont Flash III XCR boots, a pair of Teva Dozer 3 sandals for camp and water crossings, an MSR MiniWorks EX water filter, a GSR titanium cookpot and bowl and a pair of Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles. I also packed a Bearvault food canister (overkill for Maine, where rodents are more of a problem than bears) and my old Coleman Peak 1 Apex stove and its canister of gasoline.
I’m not sure that I would take the stove or the Bearvault again, though it was nice to have hot soup and not to have to worry about hanging my food. I definitely will not pack a DSLR and tripod again — they mostly stayed in the pack and gave me something else to worry about during water crossings.
The trekking poles are indispensable for rugged terrain. They kept me from falling many times, and allowed me to go easy on my knees and hips during steep descents. Some people say that the holes they make along the trails and the scratches they leave on rocks violate the Leave No Trace principle, but I personally am willing to scratch a rock in exchange for escaping injury.
