This is the dynamic map of the Minecraft world we met in today. You can read chat and also see a bunch of player tags.
I needed to build an outpost in a snowy biome so I would have a good place to listen to metal. Then, I needed a fast way to get to it, so I made a portal.
Automated ore processing - Sorting, Maceration, Smelting, dropped into chest, runs all day unattended :-)
I created this in minecraft, duh, and then I exported it as an obj file, imported into cinema 4D, textured all the blocks (which took forever), and finally rendered. (GI + Ambient Occlusion)
There are 3 texture faults, find them, and you'll receive the gift of being a know-it-all.
The water texture is horrible, I know, it was the C4D standard one.
Apparently hard to see where you are going while wearing a cardboard box on your head. To move around, he lifted it up a bit so he could see under.
To work on my OpenGL and 3D graphics skills, I tried recreating this project from just the writeup, without referencing any of the source code.

Poster for my new obsession, Minecraft.
I intended to represent the environment in Minecraft that both made the world above ground interesting as well as the world underground.

After a long bout, dealing with the piglin hordes, the hero of legends descend his big beaked friend for a moment of rest. Though one shall be careful when lowering their guard as strange creatures may lurk, hidden in the shadows.
For my physical entry in Cheesy Studios' contest I didn't have quite the number of pieces in the right colors, so I had to get creative. I chose to build it in the style of Minecraft: legends as it has a looser style (the big stone golems can be found off-grid buried in the ground) and to build the environment in a gradient radiating out from the fire, changing the natural hues of the forest. I used a yellow color only available with duplo to get the right vibrance. For the composition I took some inspiration from the artwork of Hyper Light Drifter. Something about the player character resting against some huge statue is just really appealing to me. Lastly I tried a new technique when photographing the module, painting in the lighting using a projector to get the right mood. The last picture shows the ground in a more natural light.
Had an amazing tour of Jo Kay's latest build and chatted with her and Dean Groom about what they're doing with Minecraft, kids and learning.
While I haven't been grabbed by the Minecraft bug (I like my virtual worlds prettier and more realistic), I am in awe of what the kids are doing and what Jo has built and what Dean is building around it in terms of pedagogy. The kids are learning planning, building, creativity, citizenship, ethics, communication, cooperation and scripting -- it's pretty impressive.
