Le moulin de Varennes- Jarcy date de 1260, il appartenait aux abbesses de l'abbaye de Jarcy. Situé à environ 25 km de Paris sur le bord de la rivière Yerres. On y a moulu le grain jusqu'en 1922.

The Nijlânnermole near Workum was probably built in 1784. The octagonal top porter is of the ground sailer type and its function is a polder mill. The polder that he drains is 440 hectares and is partly bordered by the old dike that runs along Workum and Hindeloopen.

The first mill on this location was built in 1624, the same year that the polder was diked in. He then worked with a water wheel. In 1770 there was a mill with a mortar, but in practice it was too small. In 1784 it was replaced by the current mill, which had a larger auger. The pine spindle dates from 1624, the rest of the wood has been replaced.

Until 1950, the mill was driven by wind power, after which a diesel engine was installed.

My grateful thanks for your visit, fave and (if you have time) comment.

River Itchen

It is known that there was a mill as early as 1556. In the following centuries this mill has been regularly renewed. The last time that took place was in 1899. The existing mill (a ground sailor) was demolished and a scaffolding mill came in return. The lower stone part was built on site and the actual mill was from the Zaan region. There the mill was used as an oil mill. In Bunschoten the mill was converted into a flour mill.

This historic mill and surrounding houses are located along the Baltimore Pike in Glen Mills, PA. As the story goes it is haunted by a woman from the mid-1800s who lost her 15-year-old son in the civil war. She became so distraught she threw herself into the swiftly moving mill stream and drowned. I believe this house is the miller house where she lived if the story is authentic.

The Spaulding Grist Mill

South Street, Townsend Harbor, MA

The grinding stones of this mill were driven by a horizontal wheel powered by water from the Squannacook River. The mill processed corn and grain grown by local farmers until it closed in the 1920s. It is currently closed to the public while under repair.
