For how much longer ... a while at least, I hope.
Thank you for viewing my photo. I really appreciate any feedback, and each and every comment:)
I ROBOT
This is one of the first books I ever read after leaving school and it took me down the long road of Science Fiction. Isaac Asimov, Philip K Dick, J G Ballard, Frederic Pohl, Jack Williamson, Robert A Heinlein and so many others.
So this is a little tribute to those imaginative folk who put pen to paper, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
The little clock character was a birthday gift of many moons ago, he seemed appropriate to go on the shelf too. A bit cranky now, he doesn’t stand up by himself but leans in a very casual way and is a good timekeeper.
The next bit is a bit weird, I don’t own a copy of Asimov’s “I Robot” because it’s not in Penguin Books and I only collect Penguin Science fiction but I might make an exception and buy it along with the ‘Foundation' series at some time.
Hope some of you have enjoyed Sci/Fi too and have appreciated those writers and their imaginations. Here are a couple of other titles that I think have gone down in history as classic fiction.
When ever I see the word milkbar I always remember my parents talking about the "milkbar cowboys" I think its a unique NZ term for a sort of greasy haired rock n roller motorbike riding gang from the 50's.
An Australian icon. Every town has one. This would be your first stop on your way home from school. You'd grab some lollies, an ice cream or a bottle of soft drink. Often you'd sit out the front in the shade on weekends and debate whether Boba Fett really did die in the Sarlacc or maybe he might have escaped???
When I was young, maybe around 7 or 8, riding in a slightly older 1948 FX Holden, I always got excited any time I saw the good old Peters Ice cream cone high up in front of a milk bar or corner store. At night, they were even lit up from within and looked wonderful. On seeing one of these, it was closely followed by intense pestering of my Dad to pull over and buy a treat, like an icy pole or a bag of cheese Twisties. Sometimes it worked!
This sight would be familiar to many older Aussies, with the 1960 FC Holden pulled up at the petrol bowser of a general store and Milk Bar. These old places often sold almost everything, and sometimes incorporated the Post Office too.
In this case, this is an old store front belonging to an antique dealer in Killarney, Victoria, not far from Warrnambool. The current owner also told me that the original milk bar here had been used by the Ford Motor Company in an advertising campaign in 1973.
Always happy to see any sign declaring ice cream to be a health food!
It is of course, a forced perspective shot of my 1/18th scale model 1960 Holden FC parked in front of the old store.
I am much smaller than my five brothers. May be it's because I came at last. Mother had born my five brothers and then took the liberty of a 60 minute break. They all thought, it's over.
Lol!
But then, I surprisingly slipped out. This was the first great moment of my life. The only girl - they were pretty much excited. So funny!
Believe me: I will learn how to prevail among these rude big boys.
Give way now, brothers, I am going to visit the milk bar!

In Coburg this building is now home to a groovy little café bathed in the afternoon sun and shadows. Once again my gratitude is boundless towards the owners for leaving this historic provenance to be enjoyed by future generations.
The old Milk Bar, High Street, Daventry. It is now a Turkish/Mediterranean grill which I have never tried.
Nice to catch a few autumnal leaves whist they are still left hanging.

Time travelling
Last weekend I've been visiting a transport museum. It features the world's largest collection of German motorcycles, as well as vintage cars, and shows the development of individual transport. (says Wikipedia)
But it does not only shows the cars and motorbikes but gives you an idea how people during that period of time lived, what they did etc.
