Just got back from a long weekend to Gettysburg where we took photos at the park as well as photos of a wedding for one of our close friends.
A humbling morning there on the battlefield.
The Silver Birch lined Old Military Road leading to Braemar with the summit tors of Ben Avon beyond.
From the wide Esplanade, where Edinburgh's famous 'Military Tattoo' takes place every August, you will cross a drawbridge over a moat. It is the statues of the Scottish heroes of independence William WALLACE and Robert the Bruce who welcome us as soon as we enter Edinburgh Castle, reminding us of Scotland's tumultuous past.
About an hour past sunset on a humid evening. The sky was actually cloudless, but the air was very thick and humid, so the far off town lighting was illuminating the sky creating some interesting lighting across the scene.
A wonderful humid summer day to be out in the battlefield.
Humbling to imagine the men (fathers and sons) out fighting for their lives in that weather.
Along the Wheatfield Road is the Peach Orchard in Getttysburg. Here I captured at night with some light around from cars leaving the park. Pretty on this calm night under the stars. A nice time to be there taking in this solemn place.
Captured at ISO 5000 to keep the exposure to 30 seconds and the star field relatively stationary.
Some of the nice views across to the high tors of north-west Dartmoor on our walk near Okehampton last Sunday. Large parts of this part of Dartmoor are used for military training and parts of the military camp of Okehampton can be seen on the right edge of my photo.
Military base explosion. Or simply portal to another world. Anyone can see what's possible happened to this abandoned location. For those who want more, come and see our video on youtube: youtu.be/-4DarIifnRc

The military macaw is a large parrot and a medium-sized macaw that gets its name from its predominantly green plumage resembling a military parade uniform. It is native to forests of Mexico and South America and though considered vulnerable in the wild, it is still commonly found in the pet trade industry. Wikipedia
I was on my way home when I passed this convoy of military vehicles parked at Hillarys Marina. As always I had a camera with me. The light was awful but the military people consented to being photographed so I snapped a couple of shots off. it captured the moment. They drove off pretty much after that.

Monument there in the woods to the brave souls there in the battlefield. The lighting was very nice coming in through the trees late in the day.
The Diwan-i-Am (Hall of Public Audience) us where the Mughal emperors presided over court and conducted state business. The vast royal compound in Agra was founded in XVI century by the Mughal emperor Akbar who transferred the capital of his realm to Agra, expanded subsequently by Jahangir and Shah Jahan. It is much better preserved than its namesake in Delhi, but most of it is occupied by the military garrison and is off limits to tourists.

Bullhorn guy. Rob Bell would be proud. I volunteer as a marketer for the Army: "Ladies and gentlemen, today marks the seven-year anniversary of the Iraq War. Over 100,000 civilians have been killed in this war. Over 5,000 United States troops have been killed in this war. So what if there were no WMDs? So what if al-Qaeda had no connection Saddam? It's still worth being over there! The war is not over yet and our government needs your child for sacrifice today. And if you join today, you'll receive these great benefits: Free college! Adventure of a lifetime! Job security! These are fantastic benefits, and all of them can be found at the military recruiting station behind us. However, I am required to note that as great as these benefits are, they do not apply to the dead." www.ivaw.org/
The Navy was the last branch of the Canadian armed forces to accept women as recruits. The Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service was not established until July 1942, much later than the Women’s Royal Naval Service in Britain (also known as ‘Wrens’).
Canada’s Admiralty was slow to see the importance of bringing women into the RCN. However, by the end of the Second World War, there were more than 6000 regular personnel and officers in the WRCNS.
The fact that women now serve in all aspects of naval operations is mainly due to the hard work and adventurous spirit of the Wrens.
Usually these military orchids (Orchis militaris) are only flowering after the green-winged and early spider orchids. But this year has been exceptionally warm.
Normalerweise blühen diese Helmknabenkräuter (Orchis militaris) nach den Spinnenragwurzen und den kleinen Knabenkräutern. Aber dieses Jahr war sehr warm.
