08.01.2022 | Cimochy | SU46-029 z pociągiem TGS 711001 relacji Oderbrücke - Suwałki przejeżdża przez dawną stację Cimochy.
Cimochy to dawna stacja graniczna w Prusach Wschodnich. Posiadała kilka torów, rampę przeładunkową oraz żurawie wodne. Do dzisiaj przetrwały resztki wieży ciśnień oraz budynek stacyjny.
This object looks pretty harmless, but... At first sight it looks like a cane, but if you pull at the pommel it is a thrust weapon.
I don´t know how this one came to our family, my Grandfather owened it, I guess he cajoled someone. He was an engineer and he worked at merchant ships. He was travelling the world, somewhere he found this one.
Various bayonets from WW2 including an early Kokura Arsenal Type 30 for Arisaka rifles, a Remington Manufactured M1917 Enfield (1917), a Springfield Armory 1905 (1918), an AFH M1905E (1943), a UFH M1 (1944), and an M4. The M4 is actually post WW2 but designed upon the M3 trench knife.
DSC03509 - 32mm extension tube. Detail taken from a 5.56mm ammunition box I bought from army surplus and re-purposed as a case for an analogue synthesizer.
.30 caliber ammunition on 8-round M1 Garand clips.
M1 clips are fairly easy to find, but filling them with quality ammunition is getting a bit expensive. I once read that the ammunition feeds better if the last or top round loaded is on the left. I don't suppose I ever really noticed any difference when firing the rifle.
Many people site a "weakness" of the weapon as being the "ping" of ejecting the clip after the last round and/or the "ping" the clip makes when it hits a hard surface. I guess I can see that, but in combat, there was not a better service rifle in the field, and I'm not sure how noticeable a ping would be among the thunderous roar of modern battle. I guess there are situations in which that simple sound would have been revealing.

This telegraph key was made by the Winslow Company of Newark, New Jersey. It is still very clean and has its original earphone and case.

1919A4 air-cooled Browning Machine Gun on M2 tripod with cloth-belted ammunition from a vintage ammo box. Traverse and elevation mechanism attached. Quite a job truckin' the gun, ammo, and tripod up this steep hill by myself - makes me appreciate the idea of a machine gun team or crew. Anyone who has carried one of these or has taken one apart knows that this weapon is a BEAST! It may not have had the fastest rate of fire nor did its barrels change quickly and easily, but everything inside it is massive. With the tripod and the T&E, one can see how it could lay down accurate suppressing fire while others maneuvered to overcome an enemy position.
1944 Jungle First Aid kit with some original items including carlisle bandage, insect repellent, burn ointment, mercurochrome, iodine swabs, bandages, halazone tablets (not shown).
I regularly see the empty pouches for around $25 (or more), wrapped Carlisle Bandages for $10, bottle of repellent for $8, tourniquet for $8 to $10, iodine swabs $3 each, period bandages (elastoplasts) $2 to $4 EACH, etc. I rarely see the boric acid ointment or the mercurochrome at all.
I have never seen two of these with the same contents. I suppose that would be natural for the field, though I am sure there is a prescribed inventory.
k98, Bayonet & SS Helmet. *It also shoots 3" groups at 100 yds with IMI surplus ammo.* After shooting 40 rounds thru it, I can see why they didn't shoot them alot.
Includes M1 Rifle with serial # below half-million (Dec-1941), M1944 Suspenders (1944), M1923 Cartridge belt with 9 clips and 1 oil can (1944), Grenade launching Site (1944), Carlisle bandage (1943), Canteen, cup and cover set (1945), M1 Bayonet, M7 Grenade launching tube, Frag. & Smoke adapters (1945), Anti-Tank Grenades (1944), Spare Ammo Bag, containing smoke grenade sealed in cardboard can.
I think the M1 rifle is one of the very best weapons ever produced. That is why I have 2 and would like to get another (dozen!). I have heard very little criticism about this rifle, especially from anyone who has used it in combat. Some people, however, did not like it and claimed it was unreliable.
