I heard there are swarms of them in Southern California lately. At the Long Beach Beekeepers table at Retro Row Fourth Friday, I only saw two; but it was late for butterflies, and it was cool weather, and anyway these were outstanding specimens! We had common cause, as they were handing out bee-friendly flower seed packets. They left quite a few for us to hand out.

Luckily there is no cliff, else, like lemmings, they might plunge to their deaths

The fall migration of Monarch Butterflies came through in mid-September. I had just enough time to get a few shots before they were gone. Sadly, these were the only Monarchs I saw all summer.

James, Ken, Leslie, Wendy and I went to the Platte river to see migrating sandhill cranes. On the way, we came across these snow geese instead. The math guy among us estimated there were at least 200,000 birds. I was glad I haven't watched Hitchcock's bird movie in a while.

Apparently, the Monarchs are migrating through our area right now. (Well, a week or so ago, when I took these.) A friend of the family has a huge butterfly bush on her property (more like a butterfly tree), and they were LOVING it!!! At any given time, there were 15-20+ Monarchs on this bush/tree. They were gorgeous. The light was getting low in the sky so I got to get some nice backlit ones. I'm uploading 16 of these at once, for those who want to look at all of them. I couldn't decide which I liked best!

Meanwhile, the continuing saga of my camera. It is broken. I brought it to the camera store. They have to send it to Olympus. I have a stuck shutter blade. I'm waiting for them to get back to me with a price on how much it will cost to get it fixed. Depending on how much it will cost, I may or may not just get a new camera. BUT...it's going to take them approximately 10 days to do this!!!! That doesn't even include fixing it! That's just to get the estimate! The problem with this is that the leaves are JUST NOW starting to change. The peak of fall is only about 2 weeks. Honestly, this is one of the WORST times for me to be without my camera. I am NOT a happy girl.

In the morning and evening, on most streets, dozens of people gather daily to sell vegetables.

I saw hundreds, if not thousands, of men and women similar to this woman.
