The fall Nighthawk migration is in full swing! Dave Hoitt counted 241 Common Nighthawks flying south over Surry Dam and adjacent ridges from 6:27 to 7:14 p.m. on Monday, August 24, and sent along this fantastic photo of a male Nighthawk (as identified by his white chin patch) in mid-air.

Flying South across Mayfield Village, Ohio

I've never seen so many Canadian Geese at one time --- well over 100. These were taken in late November on a very misty, rainy day, and the colors were eerie and incredible.

A full sky of ducks over the Pemberton valley.

This project is the getting through process of the young people who are individuals by integrating their traditional arts to the major society and make their cultures embrace with the society without being isolated.

There was something about the naturalness of the scene I didn't want to touch. It makes my point about monarchs: yes nature is messy, but leave it be so these creatures can live. I took this in Cape May a few weeks ago, and the monarchs were depending very much on these yellow flowers as they were migrating through.

The ones that migrated are flying through en-mass. The ones that spent the winter are pushing the migratoring birds through.

Distant shot, Winsor Dam, Quabbin Park, MA, Nov 8, 2014

My wife and I went down to the Cape May Bird Observatory to take part in the first day of the 2012 Cape May Hawkwatch. Had a great day despite lots of overcast and the intermittent rain showers. I didnt get many raptor shots, but had a great time on the photo-walk where I had many opportunities to shoot butterflies and other creatures that I learned that I knew surprisingly-little about. Here is my favorite Monarch shot of the day.

my Mother's birthday is on December 16 so she usually has to wait until Christmas to get her birthday present from me. She fell in love with "Migrating Monarchs" at a show I was doing but just didn't seem to have enough money to spend for it. So I sent her a birthday card that said she had received it for her birthday. She was quite thrilled and I can't wait to see it in their living room next time we are to their house.

Flock of brants passing over Long Island during spring migration

I believe the Merlins are migrating through our area. I have heard or seen them in a long time.

After a break, this swan couple are moving on southwards.

Ducks only migrate once a year I've heard. Bearing that in mind, I was lucky to snap these two on their long journey to Africa.
