Many people took off work this past weekend, but for farmers, especially small organic farmers, it is not always possible to celebrate holidays if they come at times when farmers need to be tending their crops..

 

Controlling weeds is particularly hard for organic farmers compared to GMO farmers, who often drive air conditioned tractors guided by GPS, pulling spraying equipment that drench their genetically modified crops with #RoundUp herbicide to kill weeds.

 

If organic farmers sprayed #herbicides on their traditional crops, the crops would die. Instead of big tractors, organic farmers usually drive decades-old open-air tractors pulling cultivating implements that mechanically remove the weeds from between the rows. To finish up, they often walk down the rows with hoes to get rid of any weeds missed by the cultivating equipment.

 

USDA Certified Organic food sometimes costs a little more than GMO because GMO farmers receive tax subsidies. As a result, major food corporations have replaced real sugar with the GMO version called high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). The subsidies make #HFCS cheaper than sugar. HFCS contains Round Up residue at levels that devastates microflora in our intestines. The residue is linked to #ADHD, #celiac disease, and numerous other conditions.

This video is of our annual 2017 wheatgrass harvest. by Pines International

Our specially designed harvesting machine harvests the wheatgrass without it ever touching the ground. The wheatgrass is stored in a sterilized container inside the harvesting machine.

 

The harvest occurs at a special stage of growth called the “jointing stage.” This stage lasts only a few days, only once each year, in the early spring. Scientists discovered that wheatgrass grown outdoors through the winter and harvested at this special time in the appropriate climate of Northeastern Kansas contains a higher nutritional level than any other dark green, leafy vegetable. That's why people depend on it to increase their daily intake of vegetable nutrition.

 

We still operate one of their laboratories the scientists used for the wheatgrass research by doctors and hospitals. That research inspired Ann Wigmore and other authors who wrote books about wheatgrass. In fact, this field is one they used to grow the wheatgrass for that research.

 

Unlike most of Kansas, which is too dry to grow wheatgrass and alfalfa without irrigation, Northeastern Kansas receives plenty of natural rainfall. Thus, Pines does not use irrigation. Unfortunately, through more than 80 years of irresponsible agricultural practices, the aquifer in drier parts of Kansas is severely contaminated with toxic chemicals. Yet, because of the dry climate, the wheatgrass and alfalfa they grow for the natural food marketplace must be irrigated.

 

By contrast, Pines is the ONLY #organic producer of #wheatgrass and #alfalfa powder in Kansas that does not use irrigation. We are also the ONLY Kansas grower for the natural food marketplace that is sincerely 100% organic. Other growers practice "dual farming." They grow pesticide-based animal feed most of the year. They see organic wheatgrass as a profitable sideline for their agribusiness factory farming enterprise.

Real Wheatgrass Ready for Harvest in Spring by Pines International

Here is one of our wheatgrass fields today, just before harvest. This stage of growth lasts only a few days, once a year, in the early spring. For more than 80 years, people have used this kind of wheatgrass as a way to increase the green vegetables in their diet. The USDA says we should be eating more vegetables than any other kind of food. #PinesWheatGrass, #MightyGreens and #GreenDuo are convenient and economical ways to do that.

 

Some people mistakenly believe #wheatgrass is supposed to grow unnaturally in trays for #wheatgrassshots. The wheatgrass used in the research that inspired Ann Wigmore was not that.
