Matt Sproit is known for his work on Stan Lee’s Lucky Man (2016), EastEnders (1985) and Guerrilla (2017), he also appears in the BBC Drama series Luther and Call The Midwife.

I thought the blue light would add a bit to the drama, especially as Matt is often portrayed on the wrong side of the law in his roles.

I thought I would show Matt in monochrome, a Film Noir effect, he certainly has a characterful persona.

A new mom, who knows a soft hearted person when she sees one. That's right, this little lady is eating walnuts. She comes into the backyard after the male squirrels have eaten whatever has dropped from the bird feeders, and emptied their own squirrel feeder. Smart little thing, she has figured out that if she waits for a person to come change the water, she will get fed.

I think that I visited everyone today... Have been out birding, spending the last day with visiting daughter and fiance and playing midwife to Monarch butterflies.

in the print for the midwife office, her head was cropped out of the image though.

The UK Midwife toads were introduced here over 100 years ago as stowaways among a shipment of plants to a garden nursery in Bedford. (Fossil evidence suggests that they once occurred naturally in the UK but for some reason they went extinct) They have since spread to other counties, and populations are mostly based in Bedfordshire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire. They are characterised by their parental care, with males carrying strings of fertilised eggs entwined around their hind legs. The males carry their eggs for up to 6 weeks at which point they are ready to hatch where he deposits them in a suitable body of water.

Midwife toads are markedly smaller than our native amphibians growing to 5 cm in length (about the same size as a 50 p coin). Midwife toads feed mainly on small invertebrates they find among the undergrowth and may live up to 8 years in the wild.

a nice little toad living in my country give me the idea to include a corrugation in my model to create the eggs . of course the inspiration come from the wonderfull models of Beth Moore Johnson and especially her sheep I've folded one year ago in the LUO. I'm quite proud of the result of the eyes with a simple color change. the model is simple and come from a kite base the most difficult is to fold the corugation (waterbomb base) .

The Puckett cabin at milepost 189.1 on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a tribute to the midwife Orleana Hawks Puckett. She had little education and married John Puckett at 16.

Puckett gave birth to and lost 24 children. Many were stillborn and the rest died in infancy. Many believe she symbolizes the strength of the Appalachian woman. Several theories exist today about why Orleana’s was unable to carry a pregnancy to term.

In 1889, when Orleana was in her 50s, a neighbor went into labor and no doctor could be found. This began her career as a midwife, and for the next 50 years, she traveled the Virginia countryside, never charging for her services. She was known for her compassion and skill. In more than 1,000 deliveries, she never lost a mother or a baby. Orleana delivered her last baby at age 94, and died in 1939. This cabin was her last home.

Orleana moved from her home in 1939 because of the construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway. However, she died three short weeks afterward. A small cabin on her property was preserved by the National Park Service, and is known to be Puckett Cabin.

A bit of Christmas fun. My Fry's Garage diorama was limiting the number of cars I could show, so I built this re-purposed barn to house cars waiting for service. I was watching 'Call the Midwife' and spotted an exact real car lookalike of my model and a friend supplied me with number plates to match the real car. So, with 'barn find', 'midwife', 'Baby Austin' and Christmas it all seemed perfectly logical to me!

There was little else to entertain one's thoughts beyond the crackling pops of the fire. The woods beyond were muted in darkness, a bite to the air so frigid even the wildlife had opted for the silent peace of their crooks and hollows as one of the two men camped there took first watch.

Shuffling beneath the wrap of that woolen cloak, chilled fingers fished a prized treasure from his hip. The gilt of the locket's edges caught warmly at the flickering light, illuminating the miniature portrait captured within. A single-haired brush. A master at his craft, and an innocent lie had been the tools to acquire it. He could almost still hear the small woman's words when he'd told that doe-eyed blond that he planned to gift the small painting to his sister, to remember the midwife who'd saved both mother and babe... and yet here he held it, secret, safe, and stirring a warmth that'd get him through the night.

".... Prefer the darker ones, myself." A voice grunted, the sound raw and gruff with sleep from where the knight towered over his shoulder. The sudden shifting of the man on the ground had the older of the two laughing heartily. "Pretty enough lass, I suppose." The younger of the pair was red as he made to shove the thing away, reluctant it would seem, to share the woman's visage.

"F-Forgive me for being blunt, Ser- but she's already spoken for." Big words, from a lying, little man. "She's just waiting f-for me to return home." If there was any courage in the man who'd just spoken, his words would have been the peak of it. Words that were rewarded with a lofted brow and one of those wry smiles.

"Alright, so she's waiting for you," the grey-streaked knight agreed, if only because some stories were left best to fancy. "But if my armor isn't as polished as your prick by the time we get to the Tourney, You'll be returning home without it."

One of my favorite Hawaiian images is this one of a lone hiker enthralled by the birth of new land on the Big Island.

I took this shot last year, but it seems timely with the new Kilauea eruption taking place now.

It is truly an awe-inspiring event to experience first hand.
