This delightful woman agreed to pose for me. She was having a picnic with her family in a village near Muscat. I loved her frank gaze and strong features.
After hundreds of steps you finally get to Petra's top spot, the Monastery where you can enjoy an awesome view.
So on the free day of our stay in Wahiba Sands, my guide, his wife, Maha and I set off on a wonderful "expedition." Faisal knew where he was going, but we didn't. Our vehicle climbed over treacherous dirt roads in the mountains which suddenly dipped down into valleys.
Frequently, the roads looked like they ended and we would drop off the cliff. Our journey took us far away from the dunes and only when we arrived did Faisal tell us the reason that we went exploring. He had driven the roads before and knew their secrets.
When we arrived after a drive of two or three hours, we saw the tower tombs. They were just discovered recently and still remain a mystery to those who are trying to decipher their age, origins and purpose.
For now, they are simply called the tower tombs, despite the lack of human remains found around the tombs. They were built in ancient times in the third millennium BC. They stand alone in a row in the "middle of no where", surrounded by the rugged and rocky terrain of Oman.

Night view of Shah Mosque, also known as Royal Mosque or Abbasi Great Mosque, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, standing in south side of Naghsh-e Jahan Square, in Isfahan, Isfahan province of Iran.
Shah mosque was built during the Safavid Empire, ordered by Abbas I of Persia. It is regarded as one of the masterpieces of Persian architecture in the Islamic era. Its construction began in 1611, and its splendor is mainly due to the beauty of its seven-colour mosaic tiles and calligraphic inscriptions.
The mosque is depicted on the reverse of the Iranian 20,000 rials banknote.
