I'm a Daryl Dixon fan, though Michonne is awesome - and her pets have to be my favorite zombies!

In a world where Bruce Willis and Harrison Ford kick various antagonistic a**es every other tuesday, it's really refreshing to see such a strong, bada**, independent female ninja hack and slash her way across the 16:9 screen every sunday night. Michonne, as a character, has become a symbol of strength and cool headedness in the fictional universe of the walking dead; it's incredibly empowering to women everywhere to see a woman who can not only stand up against the typically male leadership of the series, but whom can also stand independently, all on her own!
Unexpectedly found the latest wave of TWD figures today, minus the flashback Rick in his Sheriff's uniform, of course, because he is some sort of exclusive. Heaven forbid an action figure of the lead in a TV show should be as easy to find as the other characters!
Anyway, the other characters were updated figures of Michonne and Carl - nice but not essential right now - and...er...Gareth. You know, the main Terminus bad guy who appeared in about 4 episodes before being unceremoniously despatched by Rick. I can't help feeling that there were other, more central characters, that McFarlane could have made before this - Dale, Beth, Sasha, Noah, even Lori, for crying out loud!
Oh, apparently there's a new Hershel too. He has a bandana across his face....
Never mind, at least there was a new walker and they're always worth having. This one actually comes with a stand, which is a first for TWD figures. Like all the other zombie figures he's not very articulated, which is a shame, although I suppose they don't really need to be. As an ardent proponent of sexual equality, though, it would be nice to see some lady zombies!

Hey kids, it's everyone's favorite borderline-psychotic redneck meth-head bayonet-handed zombie apocalypse survivor!
Merle's one of my favorite characters on The Walking Dead. Well, maybe after Daryl and Michonne. He's a miserable specimen of humanity, but that's what makes him so much fun to watch. He brings an element of danger and unpredictability to the show.
The show's only as good as its villains, and let's face it-- as scary as zombies are, they really don't make very good bad guys. All they want to do is eat your brains; they can't scheme against you or plot your overthrow.
Merle's the perfect bad guy. He's like a wild animal; you never know what he might do next. It doesn't hurt that he's played by Michael Rooker, who's a fine actor and is very good at playing assholes.
I doubt if I'll draw any more Walking Dead characters, mainly because they're all just a bunch of normal people wearing dirty clothes. I drew Merle because I found him the most visually interesting, what with his cool bayonet hand and all. Maybe I might draw the Governor or Michonne some day. We'll see.
One thing I discovered while drawing Merle: his bayonet hand is much more complicated than I realized. I just assumed it was a simple metal tube, but once I looked up reference photos I saw that it's full of all kinds of straps, braces and bolts. I probably went a little overboard on the detail of it, especially for a cartoony figure such as this, but hey, that's what I do.
Merle was drawn all in InDesign. The scratchy background and the splatters were done in Photoshop and imported into InDesign.

I don't know much about these two other then that Michonne kept them as her pets/mules. That and they look cool as hell

The results of the Holiday Bake Off were just announced by the Emperor's Nephew Maximus, with onboard news cameras recording the event. The announcement of the 3 Way Tie did not go over well with one of the contestants.
Stormtrooper Bruce: I can't believe it was a 3 Way Tie. The thought of sharing 1st Prize was bad enough, but then that LOCO TK went all Dr Jeckle & Mr Hyde on us.
TK-1110: Dude don't look now but they're airing your commercial again!
TK-430: We're never going to finish our movie if they keep interrupting it.
STB: I think I'm going to hurl. Palpatine voided the 3 Way Tie, and now no one is getting anything. I was so close! That Nutjob ruined everything.

Going to miss ol Meryl Dixon after the end of Season 3 of Walking Dead.
My new package of three Rift Labs Kick LED lights had arrived just in time to play with on the weekend that I took this photo,so I used them to light these McFarlane Walking Dead Season 3 action figures.
I put one Kick LED on camera left and back by the last left zombie with the color temperature set towards red, one camera left but more forward near Meryl with color temperature set towards yellow, and then on on camera right and above the figures I had set the LED color temperature to white and about 1 1/3 stops brighter than the other two LED lights.
