Costa Maya is located on Mexico's Southern Caribbean coast, just north of Belize, in the state of Quintana Roo. In color, this photo appeared oversaturated, due to the bright color of the sky and the clear turquoise water of the Caribbean. As a result, I decided to convert the image to black and white to de-emphasize the colors and highlight the elements of the sea, clouds, and trees.

More from this really scenic town in Mexico. I love the colors, lines and angles - and keep seeing something more in there the longer I look.

Celestún is a town in Yucatán, Mexico. Surrounding the town is the 147,500-acre (600 km²) Parque Natural del Flamenco Mexicano (also known as the "Celestun Biosphere Reserve"), a wetland reserve that is the winter home to vast flocks of flamingos, as well as many herons and other bird species. This location is set within the Petenes mangroves ecoregion. In addition, more than 200 species of birds pass through on migration, or live there. Celestun's ecosystem is unique because of a combination of fresh water from the estuary and salt water from Gulf of Mexico.

Mexican Hat

Scientific Name: (Ratibida columnaris)

Definition: Mexican Hat is named for a flower that looks strickingly like the traditional high-crowned, broad-brimmed Mexican sombrero. Common throughout most of Texas, Mexican Hat blooms from May to July.

These grow in an area I call no man land, because it is an area, about the size of a soccer field with two deep water reservoirs, which are used to control flooding. Oddly enough, since the area is pretty much left alone, nature has reclaimed the area and it has become a neighborhood nature preserve where a lot of wildflowers grow. The downside is people take there dogs there. Most people pick up after their dogs but a lot of them do not. So, you can imagine how it smells on misty mornings. Which makes me wonder why the city cuts these wild flowers down.

For those interested, I processed this in Adobe, elements 9 using the poster corner filter. Hope you like it.
