When I was a child, I often used to see shiny metallic beetles scuttling amongst the gum leaves, always around Christmas and throughout the hot summer months...but I haven't seen one in a long long time. The closest I get to that marvelous metallic rainbow shine is the latrine fly. This one was sleeping on a spent daisy flower and didn't even notice how close I came.

I was able to photograph this young female in Pétrola in the company of Pipa and Teo when we went to look for Lestes macrostigma.
He identified her as Lestes barbarus because of the pterostigma.
Those metallic green chest tones are a treat.

simply the beauty of oxidating iron with its natural abstract decay patterns of rust 'n crust. Happy Textural Tuesday!
An abstract shot of ripples in a stream. I liked how the light created contrasting metallic colours to the ripples.
This frog's colors were metallic and almost copper-like. It looked striking with the orange tones of the zinnia blossoms.
Have a great day! ;-)
Using the 10stopper ND filter to enable a longer exposure in very bright sunlight I was quite surprise to see the crashing waves and warm sunlight had rendered the stone promenade and steps with a metallic finish
Not a scenic scene at Spring Grove ponds but a look up into the trees round the edge and a shot of a very strange sight clinging onto a branch .
My guess this is some discarded fishing gear from a bad casting . Not only is the metal ( I think it is a bait spreader or similar ) lodged in the tree but also some fishing line hanging from it - you can see it if you look large .
It is very unfortunate that gear like this is left as this is a hazard to wildlife , but where it hangs is not at all accessible to retrieve .
You can see from previous shots here that the ponds are not that large , so the fish in the water must have been caught time after time with the number of anglers that use the ponds for fishing .

One of my favourite species from Far North Queensland, the fantastic Metallic Starling. These amazingly coloured birds migrate from New Guinea to Far North Queensland for the wet season to breed. They construct these incredible communal nests in specific trees, with some locations housing hundreds of nests all together. As you can imagine the noise is something else! Each year they return to the same trees to breed & raise their young, before heading back to New Guinea.

A Metallic Starling patiently waiting for it's mate to return during a rain shower. This bird is perched atop one of the dozens of nest baskets that this particular nesting tree is filled with. Incredible to see the construction efforts of hundreds of birds.
From a distance, this moth was plain brown. Up close... gold-lame´ sparkle-glam. Found in Montana, sipping nectar on Sticky Geranium.

Lost a little focus on the edges due to DOF but I love the patterns - there was not much light in the forest and f9 was the best I could do hand held at an acceptable ISO - I typically don't have with me / use a tripod (my backpack is usually full of kids sweaters / water bottles / snacks etc. etc).

The 6/14/21 Macro Mondays theme was to pick two items from two lists posted in the group. I chose Metallic and Basket.
This image is of a wire egg basket, cobwebs included, that was used on the poultry farm on which my wife Sammy was raised during the 1940s and 50s. See it in the first comment.
