"The role of the artist is to create an Anti-environment as a means of perception and adjustment. Without an anti-environment, all environments are invisible" - Marshall McLuhan

1910 postmarked postcard view of men posing in front of the Robison Park Pavilion near Fort Wayne, Indiana. The message was from Flossie to Mrs. John A. Jennings in Rome City, Indiana. It read, "Having a fine time. Was sick all day Monday in bed. Tuesday evening went to a dance, Wednesday evening to Vaudeville and to-night I'm going to a [Halley's] "Comet Dance" with Ferd, to-morrow night to the Lyric and Sat. to the Majestic. That's going some."
The park was located seven miles northeast of the Allen County Courthouse along the St. Joseph River. It was a private venture established by the Fort Wayne Consolidated Railway Co. to increase ridership and revenue. It opened in 1896 under the name of Swift Park. Stanley Robison was the first park manager and the name change occurred even before the formal opening. The park closed in 1919 and the land eventually sold.

I am always amazed at the ability of young people to completely ignore their surrounds to focus on a text message.
I'm probably jealous - I need to put on my reading glasses to use my mobile phone.
I got the gas bill. I tore it up.
I got the Visa bill. I tore it up.
I got the cable bill. I shredded it.
I got the bill for the car. I set it on fire.
Electricity, insurance, cell, they got fed
to the disposal. I got a note from my sister
wanting to know when I’m going to return
her tennis racket. I stuffed it into an old T-shirt
and put it out with the trash. I got an email
offering an opportunity in ten easy payments
to have my body transformed into a major
pleasure park for any women I meet. I printed
it off and put it into a book they gave me at work
for my birthday on ways to improve your sex life
then took the book outside and placed it under
a tire and drove my car back and forth over it.
I received three telephone messages from my alumni
association, two messages offering better lawn care
from a man I once worked for who had borrowed
my Swiss Army Knife then claimed to have lost it
when I asked for it back. There was a message
from a man who thought I was Burt and wanted
me to call him about the deal we’d discussed. I
unplugged my answering machine and put it into the hall closet
where I put all the electronic junk I think I still might
need some day. I got into my car a drove to the mall
and ate a burger and some fries. I watched a woman
yank a child out of a store, the child’s feet not touching
the floor for many seconds. I went home, where waiting
for me was a package containing a book I’d ordered
on living a more frugal and happy life. I turned
on the TV and tried to decide what to do with that book.
I thought of Europe, Japan, and China as possible destinations.

The message of the Gospel - Jesus is the only One who can forgive sin (to lie, cheat, steal, lust etc) and through confession of sin to Him and repentance (change your ways) He will forgive you, and grant you everlasting life, its His grace that saves you from the penalty of sin (eternity in Hell), He grants you access to eternal life with Him and God the Father in heaven. Its IMPOSSIBLE to earn you're way into heaven, its by faith alone in Christ, NOT by works. Turn to Jesus, ask Him to forgive your sins, ask Him to show you who He really is and He will change your life IF you let Him!
This week is Postcard Week for me. Please see the adjacent image for the message side of the card.
When my mother passed away in 2016, I came across a large number of postcards dating back to the 1940s. My family had lived in the same Victorian house since 1912 and hence there were many discoveries to be made. Reading the postcards, the social media messages of the day, has proven interesting, not to mention nostalgic, and I put out a display at my home where family gathered after Mum's cremation. Needless to say, elderly relatives could not recall where they went on holiday in 1951! It was something to lighten the mood of the day.
This one was from my aunt & uncle to my grandmother. I remember the debacle with the car, a Humber Hawk of 1960 vintage. My parents and I were on holiday with my uncle, aunt and my cousins. My father, being a motor mechanic, spent two days of his week's holiday repairing the Humber gearbox, and with just a few tools he had to hand! Not best pleased as I recall... Anyway, I spent two days on this beach with my cousins which was really good. This picture was taken whilst on the same holiday www.flickr.com/photos/trevordurrittlrps/46512458785/in/da...
I hope that you will enjoy these images for what they are - part of the UK's social history.
Translation maybe required ....

"Be you going - or be you coming,"
"For Scotland's Pride - no Scottish Shame,"
"Gather your litter - and take it Home"
Just remember to take your litter home or place it in the correct rubbish bin!!

The nice Dutch chap I was working with has tattoos - I only saw them after a few days of working with him when he removed his overalls.
I have to admit that I'm not a fan of tattoos even though they appear to have gone mainstream.
However, I was taken aback at these. Theses convey powerful messages with background to them that I discovered when I talked to him about them.
It's interesting meeting people and discovering things about them.
He has served with the Royal Netherlands Army in Afghanistan.
This is a message you get when you delete a game on my phone. There are at least two things really wrong it -- (1) how many people beyond the programmers who wrote this message know what "JAR files" are? (2) Ever hear of word wrapping?

I started a new project, project Message in a Bottle. I am creating little pieces of art, put them in a bottle, close them off with cotton fabric, wax and hemp string, and then release them into the river Rhine, hoping that someone will find them. More about the project can be found here:
