What you are seeing here is smoke, not flames.
Set up in my workshop, this mesh was bowed to form an arch with LED lighting set up about 75mm (3") below. The camera was pre focused and fixed on a tripod. With cable release in one hand (set to approx 5 shots/sec burst) I slowly wafted a 'joss' (incense) stick from left to right under the mesh with my other hand. The Tokina macro lens was also fitted with a ring flash.
The only way I could capture this to the required definition (without additional lighting, which I did not have) was by using a high shutter speed/ISO combination. I had my doubts if this would provide the necessary quality of shot. However, some time spent post processing in Lightroom - adjusting exposure, contrast, and applying sharpness and noise reduction produced an acceptable range of shots. I think this is the best of the batch.
