The Gornergrat Bahn.
"The Gornergrat railway (German: Gornergratbahn or Gornergrat Bahn; GGB) is a mountain rack railway, located in the Swiss canton of Valais. It links the resort village of Zermatt, situated at 1,604 m (5,262 ft) above mean sea level, to the summit of the Gornergrat. The Gornergrat railway station is situated at an altitude of 3,089 m (10,135 ft), which makes the Gornergrat railway the second highest railway in Europe after the Jungfrau, and the highest open-air railway of the continent. The line opened in 1898, and was the first electric rack railway to be built in Switzerland.
The Gornergrat is a starting point for many hikes, as it lies surrounded by 29 peaks rising above 4,000 m (13,123 ft) in the Alps and several glaciers, including the Gorner Glacier (which is billed as the second longest glacier in the Alps). At the end of the line on Gornergrat, the Matterhorn is visible on a clear day. It is also a popular skiing area.
The Gornergrat railway company (Gornergrat Bahn AG) is a wholly owned subsidiary of BVZ Holdings AG, who are also the majority owners of the Matterhorn Gotthard Verkehrs AG, the company that operates the Matterhorn–Gotthard railway (MGB), with which the GGB connects in Zermatt.

La Gornergrat Bahn SA (GGB) est une entreprise de chemin de fer Suisse qui exploite une ligne de chemin de fer à crémaillère qui va de Zermatt au Gornergrat dans la région du massif du Mont-Rose.
Après l'ouverture du chemin de fer de Brigue-Viège-Zermatt (BVZ) (qui a fusionné en 2001 avec le Furka-Oberalp pour donner Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn) en 1891, des efforts ont été faits pour ouvrir une autre voie en direction du Mont-Rose. Une concession a été octroyée le 20 juin 1892 et les travaux ont débuté en mai 1896. La ligne fut construite par la Société Haag et Greulich fondée à cet effet en 1894 par Auguste Haag, architecte à Bienne et M. Greulich de Lucerne1. La ligne, à voie étroite et à crémaillère Abt sur tout sa longueur, a été mise en exploitation le 20 août 18982.
La ligne a été électrifiée avec du courant alternatif triphasé de 725 volts dès le début. La gare de départ à Zermatt se trouve juste à côté de celle du Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn à 1604 mètres d'altitude. La ligne fait 9.3 km avec une pente maximum de 20 % et aboutit au Gornergrat à 3089 mètres.
En 1909 la voie a été prolongée de 310 mètres pour atteindre le sommet. Jusqu'en 1928 la ligne n'était en service que l'été. À la sortie de la première guerre mondiale, les premières circulations hivernales allaient uniquement jusqu'à Riffelalp puis Riffelboden. La section suivante jusqu'au sommet présentait un risque assez fort d'avalanches. En 1939 des travaux pour construire des pare-avalanches débutèrent. Ils furent été retardés par le début de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale jusqu'en 1941. À partir de 1942 les trains purent circuler jusqu'au sommet en hiver, à la suite de la construction (1938-1940) d'une galerie paravalanche de 770 mètres.
En 1997 Gornergrat Bahn a été renommé en Gornergrat-Monte Rosa-Bahnen pour montrer que des téléphériques existaient au sommet du Gornergrat. Cette modification a été annulée par l'assemblée générale des actionnaires du 1er avril 2005. En mai 2005, la BVZ holding (premier actionnaire du Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn avec 43,5 %) a soumis une offre de reprise de Gornergrat Bahn. Un traité du fusion a été signé et la Gornergrat Bahn a été convertie en une filiale à 100 % de BVZ holding."

All of the deer, pelicans, egrets, herons, and all of the wildlife on the bayou including the alligators wanted me to wish everyone here on Flickr a Merry Christmas as well. Santa dropped by as well to pass out gifts to all of the critters. Just a bit of a whimsical greeting to all. Enjoy your day.

Adelaide Railway Station is the central terminus of the Adelaide Metro railway system. It is at 34°55′16″S 138°35′44″E on the north side of North Terrace, west of Parliament House. The Adelaide Casino is in part of the building that is no longer required for the station.
All lines approach the station from the west, and is a "dead end" station. Almost all trains on the metropolitan network either depart from or terminate here. It has nine platforms, all with broad gauge track. Until 1984 Adelaide station was the terminus for country and interstate passenger trains, but there are no longer any regular country train services in South Australia and all interstate services are standard gauge and call at Adelaide Parklands Terminal.
Today 40,000 people pass through Adelaide Railway Station each weekday. Half of these travel during the morning and afternoon peak hours. Free tram and bus services depart from North Terrace outside the station providing easy access to other parts of the city centre.

THE FIRST CHRISTMAS
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Plaza 66 (Chinese: 恒隆广场) is a commercial and office complex in Shanghai, consisting of a shopping mall and two skyscrapers. The shopping mall has 5 levels with total area over 50,000 square metres. The taller one office tower, Tower One, is 288 m high and was completed in 2001, while Tower 2 is 228 m high and was completed in 2006.

This was the most unexpected surprise from my husband!!! Waaaaah! He plopped it in front of me last night while I was working on the computer. My jaw dropped.
I told him it was too decadent. He told me we only live once. Well...that, and Best Buy had a thing going on where you purchase on their card with no interest for 3 years. He calculated the payments to make before the 3 years and he said we could afford it. :) Have I expressed how much I love this man??? :)
So, it's a present to ourselves...many, many presents to ourselves for the next three years. ha ha ha! We've both been wanting to experiment and learn more about photography. My only experience is a high school photography class (that I enjoyed very much).
Now to learn how to use the gem & more about photography! :)

Mission:
Photograph any subject that exemplifies "holiday spirit". What "holiday spirit" means is up to you. It can be Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Festivus or whatever. It could be religious, spiritual or family centered.
WIT: I'm glad this was a two week assigment as I procrasted right to the very end. I took this tonight around 7:30 ish outside of church. It is the angel at the top of the outdoor manger.
I had several ideas of things to do but I wanted to stick with a religious theme. I took several shots of the manger and it was so pretty with all the snow. However, I liked this one better, the subject was isolated and it wasn't as busy as the full manger.
Due to almost 2 feet of snow being dumped in the DC area, there was only so close I could get as the manger was covered in snow. So I think this one worked out the best. I can't tell if this is tiltled or if is the wood beems that are crooked. Any way Merry Chirstmas to everyone!
