While we're on the subject of taillights how about these "works of art?"

widnes sept 2015

Even this odd little wooden head figure knows not to fool around with Mercury! For the Macro Mondays theme, "In a Bottle". The bottle measures 1.25 inches tall and the scene fit within the three inch requirement. FYI - The mercury has been properly disposed.

Shot with: VOIGTLANDER, 125mm f/2.5 SL, MACRO APO-LANTHAR @ f/5.6, 3 Layer Focus Stack Rendered w/ Helicon Focus. The bottle and figure were placed on a plastic white cutting board with just sunlight coming through the kitchen window.

Mercury is a chemical element with the symbol Hg and atomic number 80.

Dedicated macro lens. No crop. No post processing.

This Mercury has been through plenty of changes since I purchased it. I drove it very often to shows and cruises. Thanks for viewing my work. Be Grateful and stay safe,

A bit of camera movement, but I have to share this beauty. Check out the headlights and the lightning bolt side trim…

I recently managed to pick up a Fujifilm X100V, a much-hyped camera on the internet with seemingly a huge following, particularly by street photographers. Part of its charm is that it also has film 'recipes' or simulations included that mimic the look of old film from yesteryear.

You can also create your own 'recipe' and this is mine based on Fuji Astia film with a few additional adjustments.

A JPEG, pretty much straight out of camera with just a minimal crop and a light vignette applied.

We're back in another Mercury Retrograde phase. I'm trying to remain focused despite the odd mechanical breakdowns and delays that are springing up in my life. A good use of these three weeks is to pause, reflect, and form a plan of action for the post retrograde beginning in early October. I find retrogrades are a wonderfully creative and imaginative time, so no need to hold back there. Retrogrades have a way of reconnecting us with our past, both events and people. No surprise then that I've spent the past few flickr posts on an event from months ago. I'm always most intensely interested in the photos I took yesterday. Beyond that they tend to feel stale even if I never fully evaluated them in the first place. Time and the frenetic pace of life simply push older photo shoots out of mind.

Anyway I found myself back in in this portrait session from the beginning of summer. Just happened to encounter this girl somewhere along the way at a Civil War encampment. She appeared a bit disheveled and her costume was superbly worn and weathered. She had amazing eyes, wide set and a piercing gaze. For this portrait I conceived of an old tintype that had been hand colored, inexpertly but with great sensitivity.

No doubt about it, I got those Mercury Blues.

The guys who wrote that song (Mercury Blues) knew all about having the blues.

Now I'm off to test drive a Mercury. Ooo, I forgot they don't make them anymore. Talk about the blues.

It's Casio time again :) This is the third time I've photographed this particular watch from Casio's Vintage line for an MM theme. I couldn't shoot the bracelet this time because I'd already done so before, but I always wanted to get extra close to the shiny logo on the watch's face, and now, with the Laowa lens, this was easier (well, sort of) than ever before. The final image is a single shot processed in DXO PL6, Color Efex, and Luminar Neo.

The lettering (0,65 cm / 0,25 inches wide) was printed, or rather embossed, with a silvery, super shiny "ink" so it almost looks like liquid metal (mercury comes to mind). I've always been fascinated by what happens to lettering when photographed with a very shallow depth of field, so this lent itself as one possible choice for our "Bokeh" theme. I also photographed the "Knot of Fate" pendant and necklace/chain (the bokeh classic) which also was part of last week's theme, and an "S-Biner" carabiner hook that had fallen out of my camera's accessory pouch when I changed my cam's battery (speaking about photographing random things for a theme), so, in the end, it was a little difficult to choose – which is why I simply delegated the choice ;)

HMM, Everyone!

Let's take this classic beauty for a ride!
