In the afternoon of our last day in Tunisia we headed to a small village called Menzel EL Mahata for the late running (what a surprise) 13-5-72 Metlaoui - Tunis Ville daily service. My dad had found a tractor so I waited nearby hoping it would soon show up. A good result was 060-DP-147 turning up vice an 040-GT, especially as I'd only got one good photo of this class in the trip. Similar to CP's 1960 class of loco these are also built in Canada by Bombardier with build dates around the early 80's. Interestingly they can be found on both standard and narrow gauge in Tunisia.
Just got back from a trip to my home town in Michigan, was there primarily for my eldest nieces wedding and managed to get some birding in. This shot was taken in the front yard of my Mothers house.
Just wanted to pop in and say Hi to everyone. Sorry I have not been able to be on at all lately. Sure have missed all of you and your wonderful images. With a major move with work coming up at the beginning of next year, I have not had the extra time or energy to do much flickering.

A donkey and cart are seen in this view taken in an unrecorded village somewhere south west of Monastir. My best recollection would be on the outskirts of the town Menzel Farsi. We passed such sights on many an occasion, but almost always I was at the wheel driving so didn't really have an opportunity to take photographs.
My Geotag location is therefore a guess.

The zoo keeper says he is quite the regular visitor! The Zoo is located right across the road from the Pacific Ocean

I was walking back from the orchid festival, rather disappointed in the exhibit and the conditions and I was walking the waterfront and just happened to stop and admire the view and looked down and there was this hummer just sitting on this dead plant, well off flew the lens cap and was able to get a quick one of this guy!

This planetary nebula is called PK 329-02.2 and is located in the constellation of Norma in the southern sky. It is also sometimes referred to as Menzel 2, or Mz 2, named after the astronomer Donald Menzel who discovered the nebula in 1922.
When stars that are around the mass of the sun reach their final stages of life, they shed their outer layers into space, which appear as glowing clouds of gas called planetary nebulae. The ejection of mass in stellar burnout is irregular and not symmetrical, so that planetary nebulae can have very complex shapes. In the case of Menzel 2 the nebula forms a winding blue cloud that perfectly aligns with two stars at its center. In 1999 astronomers discovered that the star at the upper right is in fact the central star of the nebula, and the star to the lower left is probably a true physical companion of the central star.
For tens of thousands of years the stellar core will be cocooned in spectacular clouds of gas and then, over a period of a few thousand years, the gas will fade away into the depths of the universe. The curving structure of Menzel 2 resembles a last goodbye before the star reaches its final stage of retirement as a white dwarf.

Went on a birding outing with Kim (K.Menzel) and friends to a couple of my local spots and enjoyed viewing a number of birds one including a surprise 'passing by' of this female Northern Harrier. It's always a good time birding with friends when you can actually find a number of birds and it's not cold, windy or wet!
