Spent 6 hours and two days out trying to get a decent shot of this Woodpecker. Mama is bringing fresh food to the nest.
They are indeed my nemesis bird. Arghhh!

Turnagain Arm and the Chugach Mountains, Anchorage, Alaska
Some moments are gone much too fast...disappearing before the mind and the heart can fully appreciate them, vanishing into nothing no matter how hard we try to hold onto them...
I shot this photo out the van window on the shuttle ride from Girdwood to the Anchorage airport for the flight home. Trying to take photos while in a vehicle going 50 mph on the snowy and bumpy Seward Highway was challenging to say the least, and many of the photos ended up blurry and/or extremely tilted, but with the morning light on the mountains and the icy Turnagain Arm I couldn't resist trying.
Shortly after taking this however, the fog rolled in and within minutes the mountains and the Arm were completely covered, with only the slight glitter of ice hinting at what lay beneath the thick blanket of fog. (Photo in the first comment below was taken 17 minutes after this one, also along the Seward Highway.)

Breslauer Platz ist der Name eines Platzes in der Kölner Altstadt-Nord an der Nordseite des Kölner Hauptbahnhofs.
Die Haltestelle der Nord-Süd-Stadtbahn wird durch dreieckige, pavillonartige Eingänge über Treppen und Rolltreppen erschlossen. (Architekturbüro Büder + Menzel Architekten)
Hier – wie bei allen anderen Haltestellen der Nord-Süd Stadtbahn Köln – wurde viel Wert auf einen größtmöglichen Einfall von Tageslicht und offene Blickbeziehungen gelegt, um die psychologische und soziale Sicherheit für die Fahrgäste zu maximieren.

Dalesice is a very famous village. The film was shot by Jiří Menzel according to the masterpiece of Bohumil Hrabal Postřižiny. Everything in this movie is about the brewery. Brewery exists, pub also. It's Moravian Happy End! There are few only.

I went back a third day to get a better shot of the male, this time with a tripod which I normally never use. I find they mostly get in the way for me, but since I was focused on one nesting site I thought I would save my arms and neck a bit. With tripods I find they are not as versatile as hand holding you can't move with ease when another subject darts in front of you. This time I left my tripod and camera with a friend to watch while I hit the restroom and of course right on the path was this gorgeous Coyote, he stopped looked at me, walked off, stopped looked at me again and where was my camera, not around my neck which it usually ALWAYS is. That is WHY I do not like tripods! LOL Oh well missed the shot! It was unusual for a Coyote to be in the botanical gardens in GG Park. I have seen a few in other parts of the park but never there. Very nice to see. He/she appeared to be very healthy and was beautiful!

Hamburg Planetarium is one of the world's oldest, and one of Europe's most visited planetariums. It is housed in a former water tower at the centre of Hamburg Stadtpark.
If you ever visit this site, be prepared for a great deal of people and cyclists milling around, and also keep an eye out for the flights in and out of the airport which pass immediately behind the tower.

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi to all of you! Its been awhile since I have posted and been on flickr. I hope everyone is doing great and enjoying your summer so far. I am doing well, just need to put flickr on the back burner so to speak for now. I miss all of you, your images and your correspondence so here I am checking in and saying Hi.

Finally glad to be out shooting again, the weather in SF for this past month with the exception of last weekend has been foggy, overcast and super windy.

Wir stehen in der Tunesischen Wüste an der Hauptstrecke (Meterspur) zwischen Sfax und Gafsa. Wir standen schon einige Zeit an dieser Stelle und erwarteten eigentlich den Schnellzug nach Tozeur, aber irgendwie wollte der Güterzug noch vorher durch. Die 060DP nahmen wir natürlich auch gerne mit.

Idina Menzel & Michael Bublé - Baby It's Cold Outside
Shot taken at North Lake in GG Park. I have been looking for a Coyote for four years at this Lake. About a year ago I saw the tail end of him as he was running for cover. Perhaps he is a she? :-) Me and my friend Rick were shooting racoons and another photographer behind us spotted him. I had to do a lot of fast walking, but finally was able to see him under a tree. Of course they only come out in the late afternoon, which by that time the sky is covered in clouds/fog. This part of the park is only 5 blocks from the Pacific and rarely stays sunny in the late afternoon. A first for me, had to bump my ISO up to a 1000 which I hate doing, but was the only way to get the shot as quickly as I had to get it.
I was very excited to see him and to even get a so so shot of him. He looks a bit better in large! :-)

Still in the area of Menzel EL Mahata there was one last train that we could see before the flight home, which was of course late. Whilst it was good that the light was getting better we had a cut-off time of about 17:30. My friend in Tunis had told me it should be an 060-DI which as they normally work freight and we hadn't seen one it was too good to pass.
In the end 060-DI-70 rocked up with Train 5-73 Tunis Ville - Gabes running about 3 hours late meaning we had a quick drive back to the airport. Certainly worth seeing the MLW built MX620 though as it was a brilliant way to finish a trip full of late trains!
