The National Park website states:

"The United States Marine Corps War Memorial represents this nation's gratitude to Marines and those who have fought beside them. While the statue depicts one of the most famous incidents of World War II, the memorial is dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives in defense of the United States since 1775."

In my hometown, if you go to the cemetery and follow the narrow, winding road through the woods, it is there that you’ll find the old soldiers. Underneath a canopy of trees on a quiet hilltop, they sleep...while we remember them.

UP LOF67-29, also known as the Guadalupe Hauler, rolls along the beaches of Ventura as Memorial Day beachgoers get ready to pack up at the end of the long weekend. The lack of Metrolink traffic on Memorial Day gives the Guad a good chance of running in daylight north of Ventura, so it's usually a worthwhile chase. This would be my third year in a row following them up the wildly scenic Coast Line.

The Prince memorial painted onto the side of a building in the small town of Henderson, Minnesota.

This was one of the more difficult memorials to visit for several reasons. The first and most obvious is the loss of 110 people. The second is the difficulty in finding it. At the time of our visit you had to drive through a construction storage area. There are no signs marking it from the road. The third and last reason is the condition of the memorial itself. It desperately needed better upkeep. There was trash and weeds everywhere and the markers themselves needed a good cleaning.

"This sobering memorial honors the memory of the 110 victims of ValuJet Flight 592 that crashed May 11, 1996 in the Everglades. The cause of the crash was determined to be due to expired oxygen generators being improperly carried in the cargo hold. All of the passengers and crew lost their lives during the crash. The memorial was built in 1999 for the third anniversary of the crash."

At least now you know where I belonged, right? My photo stream reveals it, or today's photo. I lived in East Berlin. As a teenager I saw the fall of the Berlin Wall. Oh dear, that was so long ago. I still remember well how we young people paid a short visit to the wall shortly before the fall of the wall. And what was: we were arrested promptly. I didn't know, we were very lucky at the time, because after our arrest we were not taken to the mfs "Ministry for State Security" . Or did we have enough relationships? mh no we were daredevils, we had no relationships. Others, on the other hand, were unfortunately not so lucky, either they fell victim to the wall or they were locked away for a long time. I remember the victims and those times.

Anyone who had been to a war, they know the feeling of a comrade, next to them, passing on. For those among us who survived, there is this question, why did I make it, why was I spared? The answer can only be, "To thank a soldier, be, the rest of your life, the kind of person worth fighting for"

In remembrance of Memorial Day, for those who gave their life, or whether you are a vet who served in the US military, or a vet of a different country who served to defend their countries and freedom, I salute you.

I say, give thanks to the Fallen.

This photo is a digital rendering and sketch artwork, I sketched for tribute to this day.

Peace to the Fallen! RIP!

This is the Great Depression line at the FDR Memorial. Took this in color, but when I put through Lightroom I made it Sepia and added the grain to it. I was trying to capture and make this a old school vintage style photo.

While we were in Sydney we stayed very close to Hyde Park and the Anzac Memorial.

The Anzac Memorial is a heritage-listed war memorial, museum and monument located in Hyde Park South near Liverpool Street in the CBD of Sydney, Australia. The Art Deco monument was designed by C. Bruce Dellit, with the exterior adorned with monumental figural reliefs and sculptures by Rayner Hoff, and built from 1932 to 1934 by Kell & Rigby. This state-owned property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 23 April 2010.

The memorial is the focus of commemoration ceremonies on Anzac Day, Remembrance Day and other important occasions. It was built as a memorial to the Australian Imperial Force of World War I. Fund raising for a memorial began on 25 April 1916, the first anniversary of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) landing at Anzac Cove for the Battle of Gallipoli. It was opened on 24 November 1934 by Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester. In 2018, refurbishments and a major expansion were completed. The memorial was officially reopened by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.

Memorial of King Bir Singh Deo on the bank of river Betwa in Orchha, Madhyapradesh, India

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow

Between the crosses row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

I accidentally came across this memorial in the third district of Vienna. I didn't knew this before and took a picture of it. The memorial is called "Staatsgründungsdenkmal" and it reminds of the foundation of the Second Republic of Austria in 1945.

Memorial Hall is a Beaux-Arts style building in the Centennial District of West Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Built as the art gallery for the 1876 Centennial Exposition, it is the only major structure from that exhibition to survive. It subsequently housed the Pennsylvania Museum of Industrial Art.

Situated in the newer part of the city cemetary, this beautiful memorial commemorates members of a family of showmen who organised fairground events locally and nationally.
