Another memorable moment at Great Meadows in Concord. I was really "running out of light" here, I think the last one in the series I took at sunset. I hope the peace and tranquility of the moment will touch you, as it touched me.
Have a great weekend all!
One of the highlights of my visit to Arches National Park was my visit to this arch at night. Not only for the fantastic sky and the resulting photo opportunities, but also for the experience of wandering off the trail and getting lost on my way back to the parking lot (actually, I guess the latter is a lowlight, if there is such a thing)! The large slickrock areas make the trail very difficult to follow at night, especially since I did not see any rock cairns. On top of that, my cell phone was not getting a GPS signal and my All Trails app was not working. Oh well, I'll just have to figure out a better approach next time. I wouldn't want to miss another nighttime trip to this arch.
A memorable instance from our Iceland round trip which showed us through landscapes I will never forget

First light on some of the Ten Peaks reflected in Moraine Lake. My soul was singing as I experienced this memorable morning. The air was crisp and chilly, all was quiet (the buses hadn't arrived yet; had it to myself) and the show was amazing. Still smiling from this special dawn.
A couple more shots from this lovely dawn in comments:
Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!
There are those days where the Stars seem to line up. They become memorable and everlasting. Last year, that day in February was one of those. It was a remarkable Great Gray Owl Year. A blistering, windy cold day and a tough walk through rough terrain was rewarded by several Great Grays which seemed oblivious of their appreciative audience.
If you're like me, you'll select your best two or three shots for publishing and then move on to other things. Those memorable days come back the following year as you see people from other parts of the world post another Great Gray, especially when there are none in your region (Great Grays around here seem to come and visit very 4th or 5th year they say). So I decided to go back and revisit that folder of images that I had completely disregarded since. So this is one those "second best".
Part 2 of a series of "left behind".
One of the most delightful evenings spent in Ullsfjord, Tromso by observing the Northern Lights painting the sky with unearthly, surreal colors.
The display began in the evening and continued with varying intensity and movements.
Needless to say, many pictures were taken during this wonderful and memorable display of the Aurora Borealis.
Thank you for your comments,
Gemma

From a memorable trip to the Western Treatment Plant on this day in 2019. Memorable for two reasons, there was a Tufted Duck there (which had attracted every bird nerd in Victoria, or so it seemed), a very rare sighting in Australia and thousands of kilometres from its known habitat. And it was a stinking hot yet very cloudy day. I did think about posting am image of the Tufty but they are not that great.
During a trip to Hawaii, my husband and I stayed in a private home on the property that also housed a parrot sanctuary. The owners of the property invited us inside the large aviaries to meet their feathered friends. This gorgeous bird was one of my favorites. His original owners had brought him to the sanctuary as he was much too loud to live in the small apartment with his owners. During our visit he was quietly investigating the metal bar of the aviary and seemed oblivious to us.

"Western Gateway Park is located on 13 acres. The park is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. daily. It incorporates a concept of a mix of green space and buildings, private and public spaces, and old and new. It includes the following buildings: Central Library, Pappajohn Higher Education Center, Arlington-Hallet Apartments, and the Temple for the Performing Arts.
Western Gateway Park is a joint effort of the City of Des Moines and the business community and serves as a catalyst for redevelopment in downtown Des Moines. This park is in the heart of the new mixed-use district and is a memorable entry into downtown as well as an attraction for the entire community."
"In September 2009, the Des Moines Art Center and the City of Des Moines partnered to open a 4.4-acre sculpture park in the heart of Downtown Des Moines. It features 28 works of art donated to the museum by John and Mary Pappajohn from their renowned collection of contemporary sculptures."
It is usually this time of year that we head on up to Mannum on the Murray River for a holiday. Unlikely to happen this year, so I couldn't resist a trip back through the archives for some of my favourite sunrise moments. This was always the best way to start every day up there. Up early, a mug of hot coffee, and sit quietly on the deck, just me and the birds all slowly coming to life.
While wandering through the gardens outside our lodgings in Hawaii, I was drawn to a plant featuring brightly colored flowers.
When focusing on an individual blossom, I realized a small face was looking at me. Egads!

One of the most memorable dawn and sunrises I have ever seen
at Lindisfarne on our recent photography break in Northumberland...it just gave and gave.
Worth the very early start to witness.
Morning fortune at Banff's Two Jack lake this day. Often sunrises don't pop and glow like we wish after waiting in the dark and cold. Not this morning though. Daybreak developed slowly with lots of clouds over Mt. Rundle. And then the first warm rays of the sun struck. Bingo!
Thanks for taking a look, and for any comments, faves and suggestions!
Under the same keys, two musical worlds came together in an event celebrating the 150th anniversary of the births of Sergei Rachmaninov and Maurice Ravel. Four pianists, divided across two pianos, brought to life significant works by the two composers, each interpreting their unique musical language with mastery. Rachmaninov was represented through his romantic virtuosity, while Ravel shone with his impressionistic refinement. An extraordinary evening in which the stylistic diversity of these two musical worlds intertwined harmoniously, offering the audience a memorable experience of unity and creativity.
My last post of the year is of my most unique/memorable car related event of the year. Here's to 2017.
I'm cleaning up the archives to delete old images that are just taking up space and came across this series from a wonderful sunrise out on the marshlands on the edge of the Bay. The future of these former salt evaporation ponds is still hotly contested. Developers want to put hundreds of homes there, but many of us want it restored to marshland.
This image was taken with my first DSLR nearly 10 years ago, and many images of that era aren't worth looking at - but this one is !
