Picture taken from Skrunda-2 the Tekst under is taken from the information Note-card about the place at arrival. You should all visit this fascinating place, that tells many stories about what once was.
Welcome to Skrunda

The Skrunda sim is loosely based on this real life town. It was licensed by the Latvians to the Russian Federation to host radar installations to cover the “threat” from Western Europe. However it was agreed to dismantle the radar installation in 1998. The Russians removed all their military sensitive and valuable equipment and left behind what you see today, the 60 buildings that comprised the former complex and town, including apartment blocks, a school, barracks and an officers club.
It is now in a state of limbo, half the site is used by the Latvian army as a training site the other half is available as land to be developed by any interested private company.
Presently no bids have been received and the site is closed to the public, leaving the once thriving town in the hands of the animals that live there and the ghosts of the people's past (and 1 or 2 stubborn locals).
We are opening the door to one of Europe's most interesting ghost towns and invite you to wonder around, marvel at the Soviet era architecture, the people that lived there and if the inspiration strikes...take a photograph or 2.

The crowds have dwindled and I sneak my ever faithful Canis Dionaea out for a walk.
My beloved Dr. Voxelstein, along with his Traveling Cabinet of Curiosities grow restless Dear Journal. We are all eager to return to the open ocean and the calming sounds of the sea by this week's end.
There's word of a glorious Columbian Exposition in a place the Doctor called "Shicargo" that I believe we will be visiting! He has regaled me with stories of a wild man named Bill and a woman that could shoot a fly off Jon "Testo" Steron's ear! I am very much looking forward to it...

The notorious Dr. Voxelstein is visiting Valmoor Harbor with his collection of curiosities "Interesting but Monstrous Specimens Previously Unknown to Mankind"!
The world-famous recognized researcher will present you the massive Golem Jon "Testo" Steron, the gruesome Gryme Twins, the unlucky Aloysius Dayum, Mr. Francis P. Nutter - the man who turned into a dog! - and many, many more!
Extra safety measures are enforced. No children or pregnant women are allowed into the tent. Cages should stay locked at all time, regardless what the Specimens would beg for. The Specimens should not be fed at any time. The morgue is delivering fresh corpses daily to keep the Monsters calm. Armed guards are stationed nearby to protect the visitors should any of them break out.

Taken at Maya Laval's SANCTUM. It's only open to the public for the rest of the day, after which it reverts to the private group. However, Maya tells me there are more events on the horizon.
The creator behind this incredible project is Megan Prumier, renowned for Valmoor and other noteworthy endeavours.
If you are around at Noon today (13 April), there's a jungle/festival /tribal-themed party at SANCTUM.
Megan Prumier designed the set and it's exceptional. The good news is that SANCTUM owner Maya intends to keep it up for longer than just this weekend.
SANCTUM is semi-private for now, but there are regular events that allow you to have a look around the whole place. Join the group to find out more.
The brand-new Butterfly Effect has a lovely cafe/tearoom called The Quantum Cafe; go and see it.
The Butterfly Effect (ground level) and Chaos Theory (sky level) were built and designed by the very talented Vally Lavender and Megan Prumier. Overall, it's really an amazing destination, that it's worth spending time exploring.
I featured the (members only) spa in my recent spa and baths round-up and hope to cover the Butterfly Effect more in future.
Ordinarily closed to the wider public, Maya Laval's SANCTUM is a private adult region focusing on hedonism, exploration and intimacy.
This weekend, though, it's open to the public, with a launch 27 Jan at Noon SLT.
As it's another creation from the very talented Megan Prumier, I highly recommend going to see it while you have the chance.
