A wooden peg used to fasten pieces of wood together. They had the advantage of not causing decay around metal fasteners. Much used in wooden shipbuilding as they gripped the planks tighter as they absorbed water.

Now those are cobblestones!

This shows the beautiful medieval architecture of the Gorgier castle in the canton of Neuchâtel of Switzerland. I consider it to be my first castle in Switzerland. The rainy weather enhanced the atmosphere of this visit to this medieval castle in the forest. My French teacher introduced her family to me, and we had a wonderful dinner of raclette - melted cheese scraped over potatoes.
