Colmar's secular and religious architectural landmarks reflect eight centuries of Germanic and French architecture and the adaptation of their respective stylistic language to the local customs and building materials (pink and yellow Vosges sandstone, timber framing). The medieval centre of this historic town has fine overhanging timber-framed buildings, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, a dream for the keen photographer.
The area crossed by canals of the river Lauch, and which formerly served as the butcher's, tanner's and fishmonger's quarter, is now called "little Venice" (Petite Venise). Picturesque colourful timber framed houses were built to both sides of the small river La Lauch.

La maison Pfister in Colmar, Alsace
La maison Pfister (the Pfister house), located right in the heart of the old town, is not the oldest house of the city but one of the most beautiful. The house was built 1537 for the hatter Ludwig Scherer. It is named after a previous owner of the 19th century.
Maison Pfister is considered to be one of the most beautiful townhouses in Alsace.
The architecture (with wood-carved loggia and alcove over two floors) is still medieval, but the decoration of the facade is in Renaissance style. The paintings depict Habsburg Emperors of the 16th century, evangelists and bible scenes.

Golden beams in the ceiling of the Belvés covered market. In 2016 a fire caused damage to the timber beam structure. The beams were repaired by a carpenter, an artisan with skills and knowledge of the Middle Ages. To restore the overall coherence with the new and old weathered beams the new timber frames were covered with gold leaf by an artist, symbolising immortality and all that is sacred, a place that has been and will always be the very heart of this communiity for many generations.

Pays de Belves - Previous name og this village is Belvès, fortified in the Middle Ages because of its strategic position and came to be known as the "Pope’s city" as it was under Clement V protection. Belvès still bears witness to a tormented past with fortified walls, a castrum (fortified camp), an 11th century auditeur’s tower, 14th-15th century castle and belfry, city hall tower, covered market, hotel with a Renaissance façade and even some ancient troglodyte dwellings. It has been designated as one of the prettiest towns in France with impressive panoramic views on top of a hill, enough reason to be member of the "Plus Beaux Villages de France".

Pays de Belves - The village Pays-de-Belvès used to be called Belvès, it's fortified in the Middle Ages because of its strategic position and came to be known as the "Pope’s city" as it was under Clement V protection. It has been designated as one of the most beautiful towns in France with impressive panoramic views on top of a hill, enough reason to be member of the "Plus Beaux Villages de France".

Spectating and sleeping cats, some looking down at all the people passing by. And some people hope to see them later again...

It's always nice to see all the facade variations. A balcony, door, windows, shutters, in various states of maintenance, decorated with roses and grapes.

Monpazier: Nature
The small village Monpazier, a 13th-century bastide town, founded in 1285 and built by King Edward I of England for trade, commerce and justice. It almost didn't change in the past centuries, a medieval town square lined with an arched arcade, a 16th-century covered market, three of the original six rampared city gates remain and many other traces of medieval history. This picturesque small village is one of the "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" villages, said to be one of the most atractive in southwest France.

A quiet little French bastide village, many ancient houses most of them renovated with taste. A very nice town for a relaxing walk

Beaumontois-en-Perigord: Urban Photography
The village of Beaumontois en Périgord, a place where the medieval history is still present, a central village square with a covered market, surrounded by houses with gables with arches and an impressive church. The foundation of the bastide of Beaumont-du-Périgord begun by Luc de Thaney, Seneschal of Gascony, on the orders of the King of England, Duke of Aquitaine, Edward I, in 1272. By the treaty of Paris of 1259, between Louis IX and Henri III, King of England, the war between Capétiens and Plantagenêts ends and the King of England recognizes himself as a vassal of the King of France. The founding of Beaumont precedes that of the bastide town of Monpazier by twelve years. The king of England, duke of Guyenne, granted in 1288 to the inhabitants of the town certain privileges.
A special building in this village is the church, it begun at the end of the 13th century was not finished until the 14th century. The Beaumont Church does not appear to have suffered significant damage during the Hundred Years War or when the town of Beaumont was taken by Protestant troops in 1576, 1585 and 1587. The building is classified as a historical monument on April 8, 1909.
