Fox squirrels at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on Wednesday January 18th, 2023. It is also the day I make sure I hook up my mange patients with their medicated pecans. I am doing it primarily on Wednesdays so I can be sure to pace out the treatments one week apart. Some of them are starting to show some good improvement, and that is nice. February 7, 2016 - Bottlenose Dolphins Captivity and Slaugter – at Taiji, Japan
On February 6, a Saturday in Taiji, after calling a blue cove day, the hunters showed up the harbor to transfer to Bottlenose dolphins out of the harbor pens and onto a truck out of Taiji.
In the middle of the first transfer, the Cove Guardians watched in horror as suddenly 9 killing machines raced from the harbor, directly in the direction of an innocent pod of 25-27 Bottlenose dolphins.
In total 11 banger boats quickly drove this pod into the cove. The nets were dropped and the pod was abandoned by the killers. Without food and shelter the pod remained in the cove for the entire night, swimming in fear and panic, not knowing what the next day would bring.
At about 6:45am, local Japan time, killers and “ trainers” arrived at the cove and the selection process began. Several killers jumped into the waters of the killing cove and dragged the dolphins under the killing tarps for the evil selectors to decide if this innocent life will go to the hell of human entertainment or death.
After several hours of torment and torture 11 Bottlenose dolphins were selected for a life of tricks for human entertainment. Most likely these 11 beautiful creatures will not eat for several days and then be force-fed medicated, dead fish. Once they are eating dead-frozen fish the torture of performance will begin and they will be forced to learn horrific tricks in order to make a profit from the ticket sales.
With “trainers” still present in the water 3 Bottlenose dolphins were erased from existence. The remainder of the pod was forced from the cove in the same horrible way they were forced in 24 hours earlier, by 3 banger boats.

I was walking along and I looked down and saw this lovely pattern of pebbles in my walk way. I loved the colors and designs and designs so I had to share it with you. I'm still busy with my treatment and my new meds. My blood pressure meds are finally taken hold but they are strong and they make me kind of all medicated up. My sister was with me all last week and we had a wonderful busy time together. I love her and miss her.

This time last year I'd just been signed off work, diagnosed with stress & anxiety. That was pretty pants; random sobbing sessions, anxiety attacks followed by giggling fits in the local supermarket, random predictions of never-gonna-happen car crashes, finally culminating in the realisation "a bit of a rest" wasn't going to sort me out!
A year on I'm still medicated but I've learned a lot about myself, where I'm going, and what and who I have in my life. I'm happy and settled and doing ok. Might even start using the camera again soon... 😉

The dogs chase the monkeys around inside The Dog Palace and when the monkeys feel they are about to be captured they just jump off the railing into the swamp.
We are on the second floor here just minutes before I was attacked by The Killer Bees.
In the next few hours I'll be heading back to The Dog Palace to eradicate the bees !
And of course feed and medicate all the dogs.
Yesterdays event took more out of me then expected so I'm dragging around here real slow.
Not to fear my second wind is about to appear ...............;-)

Drinking alcohol alone is an activity that can herald the presence of a dependence and increasing tolerance to the drink. Some people enjoy the freedom associated with going out by themselves and socializing over a drink or two. Others enjoy drinking at home by themselves and find that alcohol helps them to relax and sleep. These kinds of behaviors can indicate that a person is self-medicating problems or issues that they do not want to face. They may be having problems with family members, friends or at work, and need alcohol to help them forget what is going on. A person could also suffer from a mental illness or social anxiety and need alcohol to help them to socialise without realising that they are becoming dependent.
A person may also begin to drink by themselves because they do not want people to question the amount or frequency of alcohol that they are drinking. A person who hides their drinking from others should be questioning why they are doing it – are they ashamed or feeling guilty of their drinking? Do friends and family tell them that they drink too much? Why do they want to be drunk alone? A person who drinks alone is putting themselves at risk of developing a substance abuse problem and of increasing the problems they are facing. They are isolating themselves from others, magnifying problems with friends and family and denying that they have a problem.

At 6:41AM the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to reports of a horse stranded on a hillside in the 11300 block of N Oro Vista in Sunland. Firefighters arrived to find Sunny laying approximately 30 feet down a 45 degree hillside. His owner believes he fell down the hillside from his corral at around 3AM. Although he did not appear to be seriously injured, the aged horse was clearly exhausted from his efforts to upright himself.
Over 15 firefighters made multiple efforts to assist Sunny in standing, to no avail. While LAFD crews comforted Sunny and awaited the arrival of the LA Animal Services “Specialized Mobile Animal Rescue Team” (SMART), LAFD Air Ops worked with the General Services Division to remove the water dropping tank from Fire 2 in order to expose the hook which is capable of hoisting the 1,000 pound horse.
Once the veterinarian from SMART arrived and medicated Sunny to keep him calm during the operation, firefighters and SMART members put the harness and hoist equipment on him. Fire 2 was outfitted with a 100 foot rope used for the short haul hoist. Once in place over Sunny, the line was attached and Fire 2 lifted him into the air. Sunny was then lowered and safely placed on the ground in his corral where SMART members provided him IV fluids to help him recover from the experience. The veterinarian on scene initially believed Sunny was not injured but only dehydrated and exhausted from the effort due to his advanced age. This likely proved to be true as Sunny was up and walking unassisted after a bit of a recovery period.
This type of technical operation takes time to execute safely and requires the closely coordinated efforts of all involved. Over 50 LAFD firefighters, under the command of Battalion Chief Albert Ward, worked with the SMART members from LA Animal Services to ensure Sunny was in the best of care during the entire operation.

Pictures from Ann Arbor on a nice summer day - Thursday July 22nd, 2021. I saw lots of juveniles, which is always nice. I also hooked up a squirrel by Mason Hall (on the Diag side) that had a bit of mange. Hooked her up with a medicated pecan. The squirrels always make me happy - hope they do the same for you. On Thursday Jan. 18 we noticed Lola's' eye was a little red after we got back from our Morning hike.
Friday Morning the vet visited first thing and her entire eyeball was filled with blood! It appeared to be from trauma but we couldn't recall anything that would have caused that...began medicating and discussed possibly removing the eye if the retina was detached. She couldn't see out of it.
Early Saturday Morning she was completely blind in both eyes! Emergency trip to vet for bloodwork ruled out poisoning but blood platelet count was down to 35,000 from 500,000. No tick borne disease was found, most likely autoimmune disease.
Began antibiotics just in case it is tick borne and steroids to get blood counts up, Her vision slowly returned. Daily blood tests finally showed improvement after almost a week. Another week later and her blood was near normal. Cut steroids in half and will wait 2 more weeks.
She lost a lot of weight to the point of instability but has gained some back and continues to look better every day.
I know things could turn ugly real quick but it's also possible it was from one of the many ticks she's had and could completely resolve.
The Doctors weren't very optimistic at first but continue to be pleasantly surprised by her progress:)

Those little circles on the ground are known in Namibia as 'fairy circles'. Nobody is exactly sure how they form. Some theories say they are made by termites. Our Belgian Congo-born scientist-cum-balloonist Eric Hesemans reckons they are caused by bacteria that kill the grass, leaving a ridge of high grass at the edge of the circle where there is no contamination and less competition for water and mineral resources.
In truth nobody really seems to know for certain but I'm leaning towards @FluorideGirl's theory that the fairy circles were created by sky-dwelling angels who, when displeased by the humans below, pour fluoridated tap water from their balloons, killing off all life forms that it come in contact with.
This particular topic - the appalling crime of fluoridating Ireland's tap water and dumbing down the Irish people - was debated in the Irish Senate today by Ireland's elected scientists. OK, so not all of them were elected and very few of them have science degrees but that's not the point. The thing is that Senator Mary Ann O'Brien today proposed the following motion:
The good senator (a highly-respected business woman - she set up the internationally renowned Lily O'Brien's chocolate brand and believe me, they are wonderful chocolates) - believes that "every single one of us consumers has the right to non-fluoridated water".
Senator O'Brien continues: "This practice amounts to drugging by thirst. The thirstier you are, the more fluoride you receive. Using the water supply to administer drugs to a population is therefore both crude and archaic. And it presents serious problems, especially for our most vulnerable citizens."
There you go. Ireland is being drugged by thirst. But at least we have non-elected non-scientists to protect us. Isn't democracy wonderful?

I went to a gallery opening tonight that showcased senior art students from my school, Birmingham-Southern College. This is a piece by Shelley Tucker.
Shelley's artist statement:
"I have obsessive compulsive arithmomania.
As a self-medicated approach, I make process-oriented prints to satisfy my need for obsessive control over small details. In the fall, I documented the process of having my hair cut twenty-one times. I then made paper from the hair and used the process as the subject matter."
About her OCD, "Arithmomania is a form of OCD. It comes from the Greek root "arith" meaning "to count." It manifests itself differently with each person, but in my case, I count things in groups of four (others count in groups of different numbers, deal only with prime numbers, or have some other math or number-related quirks). The OCD part of it is in the rules and rituals that I have unintentionally developed over time, and I have found that creating detail and process-oriented artworks is therapeutic."
Shelley says this about her work, "I had my hair cut 21 times, documenting the cuts photographically. I then made paper from the hair, and I printed 9-layer silkscreen prints on that paper, documenting the process of long to short hair."
Very warm day in Ann Arbor. Saw lots of fox squirrel juveniles and adults out and about in Ann Arbor, Monday July 1st 2019 at the University of Michigan. So all sorts of things going on. First, I saw Lefty (or Tripod) near Martha Cook. She is the three pawed squirrel. I got some nice pictures of her in the sunlight. Additionally, I did see "Patches O'Houlihan" again (a squirrel who had lost most of her fur because of mange) on the Law Quad. Last week, I reached out to the Friends of Wildlife Michigan and they connected me with someone who has worked up some medicated pecans for me to feed the squirrel. I came on Saturday and did not see Patches, but I saw another who seemed to have mange. I did give that little one the first pecan and hopefully that will help. I decided to call that one "Justin" for the youngest team member on the dodgeball team that Patches coaches. Today, I had a short amount of time and ran over to the Law Quad and saw Patches! I gave her the pecan and I hope it does the trick. She is not sporting much fur and seems to be raw from scratching. I will give Justin and Patches the second pecan next Monday. I really hope it does the trick. I will track their progress - fingers crossed!

Fox squirrels getting ready for a cold winter in Michigan - taken on Wednesday December 21st, 2022. This was the first day of Winter for 2022-2023. The very quiet campus was ready for the break as the students and most of the faculty and staff were gone. I did notice that a good number of squirrels over by Lorch Hall were showing signs of mange. The bald red marks are where they are scratching. If they share a nest, as many do, they can spread easily among the squirrels. I hooked up a number with their first dose of medicated pecans (with Ivermectin) to treat manage. Since they need to be given a week apart, I will try to make a visit between Christmas and New Years. I also heard from a friend about a squirrel with mange over by the Power Center - on the northern side of central campus. That is not normally on my walking path, but I drove there on the way home. Did not see anyone at the Power Center, but I did see little Max Power kitty corner at the Alumni building. This little one had a bad case and I hooked them up with the first dose. I will get more meds for the next walk through campus. Thanks to Friends of Wildlife! It is going to be very cold in the coming days - having a full coat would be ideal. Hopefully we will get these two on their way to healthy living soon. Also saw a red squirrel who lives near Lorch Hall - they crack me up. Wishing you joy, health and peace wherever you are.

Ganesha Chaturthi is the Hindu festival celebrated in honour of the god Ganesha, the elephant-headed, remover of obstacles and the god of beginnings and wisdom. The festival, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is observed in the Hindu calendarmonth of Bhaadrapada, starting on the shukla chaturthi (fourth day of the waxing moon period). The date usually falls between 19 August and 20 September. The festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi (fourteenth day of the waxing moon period).
The festival involves installing clay images of Ganesha in public pandals (temporary shrines), which are worshipped for ten days with different variety of herbal leaves, plants and immersed at the end of the festival in a water(lake) along with the Idol. After adding herbal and medicated plants and leaves(patri) in lakes, the water in the lake becomes purified. This was in practice because, in early days people used to drink lake water, and to protect people with infections and viral diseases especially in this season, this tradition was introduced. Some Hindus also install the clay images of Ganesha in their homes. It is believed that Ganesha bestows his presence on earth for all his devotees during this festival.
